Passion and creativity separate the best attorneys from the rest. I have learned these lessons while litigating all sorts of cases in Utah and Arizona. At times, settlement is the best option. When settlement cannot work, then trial is the answer. I have represented clients in over 50 trials, both in criminal cases and civil cases. As an attorney for Corbett & Gwilliam, PLLC, I continue to use my passion, experience, and creativity to serve my clients.

The American Society of Legal Advocates named me to its list of the Top 40 Under 40 attorneys in the state of Utah for 2016, an honor reserved for the top 1.5% of attorneys in the state. Thomson Reuters, a preeminent legal rating company, has recognized me as a SuperLawyer for the Mountain States.

I graduated from Baylor University School of Law in April 2006 and began work as a criminal defense attorney in Arizona. For five years, I represented clients in all kinds of criminal cases ranging from simple misdemeanors to first degree murders. In 2011, I moved my legal practice to Salt Lake City and began expanded my practice to include civil cases. Currently, I handle criminal cases, family law cases, personal injury cases, and other civil disputes in Utah's trial and appellate courts.

Bulldog in Court!

David Corbett represented me on 2 matters and, to be honest, I did not expect the results that he was able to achieve. I will definitely use him for any legal needs I have in the future. I would highly recommend David to anyone that needs an attorney.

Fantastic Lawyer

Able to start a new life with David's help.

After a 30 year marriage ends its hard to know where to turn. With the knowledge and skill set that David Corbett and his staff provided with my case. I walked away with the ability to start a new life. I highly recommend David Corbett in any case, especially divorce.

Saved my son's life

I was told by other lawyers that I had a difficult case because I had agreed to my original custody arrangement. David made it happen. With him representing me, I was able to go from visitations only to having full custody of my son. He was very talented at building a winning case. When an opportunity to make a move presented itself, he made the move and it worked out in the best way possible for me and my son. I'm so glad he worked on my case. Other lawyers had advised me to go for less than what I wanted- and what I knew needed to happen- but with David, I got all I wanted. He has an amazing paralegal as well.

Professional, Knowledgeable, and Thorough

David help us with the custody petition for our mentally disabled some who became an adult. David and his office handled all the details and paperwork expertly and efficiently. We only spent about an hour with paperwork and then appeared at the court hearing. Everything was in order and met all the Judges expectations and no follow up was needed. Definitely worth the money.

Best custody attorney in the world!!

My child custody battle has been long and drawn out, David Corbett has never let me down over the last two years! He has gone above and beyond. Because of this mans time and energy I now have custody of my son, and David has made sure every aspect is covered for long term safety for my son. He is honest and upfront from the start. I am going thru an interstate custody, one of the hardest cases to handle with children especially when me (the father) is the one who lives out of state, for an attorney to be with you fighting for custody in juvenile court, then go to family court and get sole custody!!! I am beyond blessed I found David he has changed my family's lives and future!!! I recomend David to anyone. I had a attorney on my case before David and she was horrible, the first three months David had my case he had me in complete shock how quickly he turned my case around. Once my case is final and closed I will miss the phone calls and emails. He was a blessing sent to our family. Look no further get this man on your team, trust him even when you think there is no light at the end of that tunnel, he will find a way to reach it! BEST ATTORNEY EVER!!

The attorney you hire when you need to replace existing.

David is the attorney we should have had from the start when adopting our daughter. We suffered through 2 years of an attorney from SLC draining us financially with the intent to continue though we found out within minutes of talking to David, our case should never have taken this long. We were able to seamlessly transfer our current case to David who not only is the most reasonable and ethical attorney we spoke to, but he was able to accomplish what we thought would never end in only 4 months! Billing, communication, and results were all done with pure honesty and ease. Where the original attorney saw a chance to exploit us, David saw the chance to serve his client with integrity. David was always kind, listened, punctual and did exactly what he said he would do. Our only regret is we didn't find him in the first place.

David Corbett Review

David's work in the course of my 8 1/2 year case has been excellent. My case has spawned two Utah Supreme Court cases and a federal wiretapping case. David thought to subpoena Court Reporters and discovered , in the federal wiretapping suit, that my ex and his attorney had failed to comply with Judge Shelby"s order that they turn over ALL recordings. He thought to do this because he is SMART! It resulted in a motion against them for sanctions for failure to comply with the judge"s order. Kim

proof of the importance of good representation

David has been excellent to work with. He has been an integral part of my efforts to gain access to my daughter and I trust him implicitly. David was not the first attorney that represented me in my case, and the difference of representation was obvious with Mr. Corbett. Great job on divorce

David did an amazing job on my divorce. I never thought I would be in the situation where I needed an attorney, but David did a great job guiding me though the process. I really appreciated how honest he was and how he walked me though things step by step. David took the time to really listen to my concerns. Saved my life

I wouldn't be where I am today without David. When skeletons from my closet decided to surface and threatened to throw my special piece of the world into complete and total chaos David stepped up to the plate and faced the challenge without hesitation or regret. Due to his dilligence and strength of mind and composure he helped me out of a hole I didn't even know I started digging. It's been nearly three years since I hired him and I can honestly say that in the time he worked with me I gained a friend. There is something incredible how even in the darkest and most fearing moments that he has to say just a few words to put your mind at ease, especially when you are being manhandled by the 'justice' system. He made sure that justice was tempered by mercy and that, though it still shakes me to the core, I remember the efforts involved and learn from them. I knew I was in good hands and I would hire him back in a heartbeat if I had to, although I hope I never have to. His excellence in the court room gave me the confidence to tell my judge that I would not fail no matter what the punishment was and that I would prove myself to be as good of a man that David saw and defended me as. The absolute best representation we've ever had

My husband and I were looking for a new attorney two years ago and after some serious research and talking with other people, we decided to hire David Corbett. Immediately after meeting with us, David began working on our case. He did his research, knew the laws that protected us and when we finally went before the judge, we felt completely secure. Each time I would call or email him with questions or worries he would get back to us within minutes. There were times I'd email him with a concern on the weekend or after hours, fully expecting him to get back to us the following business day, but on many of those occasions, if not all of them, he would email or call me back within hours of my email/call! Working with David was the best experience our family has ever had. We've had 2 other attorneys in the last 12 years and David was BY FAR the best one we've ever hired. He made us feel like family and I would go back to him in a second if we ever needed legal representation again.
