Thank You

Mrs. Dalton did a great job in mediation with my soon-to-be ex and I. She spent at least 9 hours on our case. She helped us see what mediation was about and helped us see that it is important to forget the past and move forward for the kids' sake. She let us negotiate back and forth until we came u...p with solutions. She made sure we both agreed together on items and then that is what she used to put into the divorce decree. She also guided us to a good middle ground on items we couldn't agree on. She is very positive and very passionate about what she does. She even gave us a signed copy of her book that she co-authored so we could learn more about the effects of divorce on children. She knew how to redirect us when we got out of hand during our negotiations. Mrs. Dalton does know what she is doing and it does stem from 25 years of experience. I felt she did a great job and I felt she was very concerned about our case. She wanted us to move forward and practice our co-parenting and start to heal. She was helping us to be able to communicate with each other again in a business like way so we could make this work for the kids. I would definitely recommend her.

Run away as fast as you can

My spouse and I hired Ms. Dalton to be out divorce mediator. She claimed her 25 years of experience as a divorce mediator and that she had mediated 1000's of divorce settlements and was very good at her job and was going to have us filing with a fair agreement for both of us. She speaks at a level of... intelligence of the average high school student. She made it clear every time she spoke with us how good she is at her job and that she has 25 years of experience and had mediated 1000's of divorce settlements during that time, wait did I already say that? So did she, many many times. If one of us questioned anything she said or asked her to further explain what or why she was saying or suggesting that her response was always the same - "If you litigate instead of doing this it will cost you $10-25,000 that you don't have, and it will take 18-24 months." She never once gave a legal reason or example to support her terrible suggestions or recommendations. After just two meetings at a cost of $1200, she gave her recommendations for a settlement and it was exactly what my spouse was asking for. There was no negotiations or compromise or actual mediating that took place. She picked which one of us she wanted to help in the beginning and never showed any impartiality whatsoever. Stay away. Stay far, far away.

Risking negative comments, I am one of the few master mediators in Utah willing to do "facilitative" mediation with high conflict divorce clients. I give my clients the opportunity to practice healthy communication and problem-solving skills in a one on one manner with their co-parent. My firm specializes in trauma recovery and in teaching co-parenting skills. My successful clients have the opportunity to receive "tech support" by email from my firm free of charge as they raise their children post divorce. After providing over 9 hours of mediation and coaching services, my client terminated the mediation process because I was unwilling to present an offer that was contrary to Utah state law. I have invited this client to consult with his attorney and return to mediation. My hope is that my client will ask his attorney to advise him regarding his financial obligations and that he will resume our mediation process. He and his co-parent were making excellent progress.
