About Lynn

Learn Lynn’s areas of practice.

My current practice focuses on family law matters, including divorce/dissolution of marriage/legal separation; children's issues, including child custody and relocation issues; guardianship of children and adults; child's legal counsel; family support; serving as a court-appointed and privately appointed attorney for children and at-risk adults; mediation; collaborative law; and related matters.

With a background as a registered nurse since 1981, I have been assisting families in crisis for many years. My family law experience initially arose out of my practice in professional liability defense litigation. Many of my clients requested and needed representation in family law matters. I realized I had an interest in family law as I had personally experienced the painful break-up of my own parents as a child, had been divorced, and had been a step-parent for many years. My interest revolved around trying to assist others through this difficult process in as economical a manner as possible.

As a result, I obtained training in alternative dispute resolution, including mediation and collaborative law. My law firm continues to provide mediation and collaborative law services in addition to traditional litigation to our clients.

My practice currently focuses on resolving high conflict matters in family law, health-related, and elder law issues in both the traditional and collaborative models. I also serve as court appointed counsel and as a Guardian ad Litem in the Combined Courts of El Paso and Teller Counties for adults and minors with exploitation, abuse, guardianship, and incapacity issues.

My past experience includes litigating a wide variety of matters involving health care, banking, mental health, child care, construction/real estate development, and business issues. I served as counsel to the medical, dental, clinical laboratory, mental health, and hospital communities, including the representation of Los Angeles County, California, owned and operated medical centers, and in the quality assurance, risk management, and ethics areas. I served as in-house counsel and chief operating officer of a medical group, Out-Patient Anesthesia Services, Inc., and served as a member of the Los Angeles Superior Court arbitration panel.

My past experience also involved defense litigation of mental health facilities, child care facilities, grocery stores, motor vehicle liability matters, and business/contract litigation, as well as lawsuits concerning the design and construction of residential and large commercial buildings. As a past President and Vice-President of a real estate development corporation, I have been involved in the acquisition and development of single family housing and commercial retail centers.

Highly Knowledgable and Compassionate Attorney
I've hired Lynn on two occasions and consulted on a third. She is extremely knowledgeable with family law and was able to settle all of my issues and concerns to my satisfaction. Lynn has also proven to be a compassionate individual and put forth 110% effort. I have and will continue to recommend Lynn to anyone in need of a class A attorney.

Lynn Landis Brown is the best, hands down
I have been using Lynn for many years. I used her for my divorce in 2005 and have used her each my ex-husband decides to pop up again. She is the best by far and I would recommend her 100 times over. My ex has had multiple attorneys throughout this city and his result tends to be the same. My result also tends to be the same, however, each time, it is very much in my favor. No doubt, this is due to the hard work of Lynn and her team. They work tirelessly to get a favorable result for her clients. I would recommend Lynn to anyone who is looking for a family law attorney. She is honest and upfront, she works hard to keep her cases from going to litigation so that she can save her clients money. Yet, she is willing to do what the client wants. I mention this because there was a time when I was tired of mediation and the nonsense that was being thrown my way, I told her I was ready to just fight it out in court. She supported me 100%. Ultimately, she was able to keep it out of court and saved me a great deal of money, but I truly appreciate her willing to fight my battle as if it were her own. She has always worked so hard for me and my children, and I could not be more thankful for her services. The next time he pops up, I will surely be calling Lynn again. Thank you thank you thank you Lynn!

Excellent Compassionate Lawyer
I lost my husband due to an unexpected illness. I was in shock and heartbroken. I came to Lynn for help in dealing with all things that comes with a tragedy like this event. She handled an uncooperative life insurance company with professionalism and expediency. Her knowledge of the health care system helped me understand hospital bills and ensure I was billed honestly and fairly. I honestly don't know what I would have done without her help. I would HIGHY RECOMMEMD Ms. Landis-Brown to all who need legal assistance!

Understanding what seperates Ms Landis from the rest
Lynn Landis is different then any lawyer i have ever worked with. She truly truly cares about each and every person, and the amount of pro bono work she does is phenomenal. Any question in any time of need, she has been there for me. She puts her clients above herself, and her own life. She understanda what we are all going through, and during a difficult time she is not pnly supportive, but positive and works her hardest to give you the very best results possible. As for the negative reviews, they are either those who post negative responses despite, or they have never had to work with other lawyers before. Lynn is not just a lawyer, she is a friend, a supporter, and a true Joan of Arc

Compassionate and informed
Divorce is a very stressful and difficult time in one's life. There is a lot of uncertainty and inability to think and react. Lynn Landis-Brown was not only compassionate, but also helped me to understand my rights and explained things in a way that I could understand. She took her own personal time to meet with me and was always very helpfull. She helped to lessen the stress, pointed me in the right direction and gave me options to resolve my issue. I highly recommend her as a Family Law Attorney.

A Complete Professional In Every Aspect
I retained Lynn Landis-Brown initially in 2009 to represent me in a divorce that later was reconsiled. At that time she offered well-considered advice which I took, and I am very glad I did. Two years later the reconciliation failed and I retained her once again. Having worked with numerous attorneys in the past (mostly district attorneys) I had an idea the personality and intellect I wanted representing me. I found those qualities in Lynn. Her detail-oriented method of handeling my case was a pleasure to experience. I now understand the world of family law, marital assets and spousal support to a far greater degree. Lynn explained every document and the necessity for them. I noticed in her work ethic a concept I call: "If you stay ready, you don't have to get ready." She involved me in my case, to the point of allowing me to review documnets for errors. This gave me a sense of control and allowed me to contribute ideas for provisions I wanted to see in the final separation agreement. She has many contacts both within and outside of the law that are often needed as "experts." These persons can make a tremendous difference in the final outcome. Lynn's office staff, specifically Paralegal Bridget Poppitz always prompty returned my phone calls and E-mails. Bottom line: Lynn helped me save my ranch and 83% of my retirement, following a 15+ year marriage. I highly recommend her.

Divorce
Hello Lynn, I want to thank you for assisting me in my divorce. I can’t thank you enough for your support during my trying time. You helped me understand the reality of the Colorado laws and advised me not to listen to rumors from friends and family who say they have been through it and try and give advice. I cannot stress enough for others who go through this the importance of retaining a knowledgeable attorney that specializes in divorce only, not one who can counsel in all things such DUIs and so on. Thanks to you I came out on top!!! I truly believe that it’s because of your knowledge and specialty that I still have my home (which I was able to refinance) and kept my two dogs, all of my house furnishings, car, spousal maintenance, and took back my maiden name. So in the end, I am loving life, ALL thanks to you! Sincerely,Linda

Separation from significant others
I had lived with my boyfriend for about 34 years and had bought a house. He decided he wanted to quit his job and travel as he thought his time on this earth was limited. He refused to cooperate or respond to any letters or summons. I contacted Lynn Brown and she helped me navigate this legal nightmare. She was very effective giving me advice that saved me money and got results. I wanted to file lawsuits to get my possessions back. Lynn pointed out that she could do this but she also made me aware how much this would cost and that many times possession are returned damaged or are lost. She save me thousands of dollars by filing only necessary motions that would get results. She returned my calls promptly and was relentless.

Lynn was relentless, thorough and very knowledgeable about the financial and business matters related to my complex divorce. She was compassionate, but very strong in representing my side. I've worked with lots of lawyers in my businesses before and did not like lawyers much sadly but Lynn changed my mind.

Best attorney I have ever had. My ex-wife wishes she had her
As a father, I thought I would lose custody of my children but Lynn was relentless and did an amazing job in court. In the end, I got primary custody. I heard my ex talking to her mother in the hall after court and I heard her say I definitely had the better lawyer. Lynn was very compassionate and her staff were there for me when I needed them but they also helped me save money where I could. I have had other lawyers before, but she was the BEST!

PLEASE READ MY REVIEW BEFORE YOU HIRE THIS ATTORNEY...
I hired Lynn to represent me against my husband that had filed for divorce and then was regretting it; it was more of a "I will show her" type of thing. Nonetheless, Lynn wanted $5,000 up front for her to represent me. I gave her that on my credit card. Since I hired her, her firm has charged me for everything including breathing. She has two paralegals that answer the phone at $125/hr. If you just call to say "Yes, I will be there for an appointment" that's it....that's a charge. Her paralegals try to get you to come "talk" to Lynn when there isn't anything to discuss. Jennifer, her paralegal would not let me cancel a scheduled appointment that had been previously made, but I was persistent in that there was no need to talk to Lynn about anything....another way to ring up more in fees. I call and want to fire Lynn and I get charged for that. She emails me and tells me she's concerned about me....I sent her emails saying I wanted to be done with her and she just keeps charging me every time I email or call to say I want her off my case. I have been charged for every little contact and this is unethical. I have employed an attorney locally over ten years that helps me with my rental properties and he has never, nor his staff, ever treated me like Lynn and her paralegals.

Waste of $175 Initial Consultation Fee
I went to see Lynn Landis-Brown to retain her for my divorce, based in large part due to the positive reviews on this website. Unfortunately, when I went to my Initial Consultation yesterday, she didn't help me at all. I had a few procedural questions prepared and some concerns about whether or not I was on the right track in my Pro Se divorce. She was very kind and sympathetic, but any time I tried to get a word in edgewise, she filibusterd with a lot of exeraneous information about spousal maintenance (which I'm not asking for) and why I need it and information about herself and what she's been through similar to my situation and some chit chat which, frankly is not what I was there for. I paid the $175 in hopes of getting the answers to five or six simple questions, like how do I go about getting Temporary Support and how can I keep from losing my share of equity in the marital home if I was bullied out of the home and he is refinancing in his own name? Stuff like that. But my hour was filled with fluff and she didn't help me at all with any of my pressing questions. I understand that lawyers don't like to give out free information on how you're doing with your case or what you should be doning differently, but I thought that, since I was paying $175 (most initial consultations are free) she might be willing to discuss my case at least a little bit.
