Colorado's Best Defense Attorney

Doug is a brilliant lawyer who honestly cared about making sure that my case ended with the best possible outcome. He is an excellent communicator. He always explained things that felt complex and scarey to make sure that I understood exactly what was happening and what would be coming next. Doug ...used his knowledge and experience in both sides of the system to my advantage. He offered support and guidance that helped me overcome fears and step forward as the best version of myself throughout the case.

Doug Richards Should Be Disbarred

When I decided to hire Doug Richards as my lawyer for a small criminal defense case, it did not take very long before I had realized I made a huge mistake. After a meeting with him which made me think I was hiring an honest, intelligent, talented lawyer that cared about each of his clients, I was in...stead paying this man a $7500 retainer for covering all potential costs and payments to himself for him representing me. The cost would be a steep $350 an hour which I thought was a very high premium for him to manage my defense in such a small simple case. I did have high hopes his performance prove to be money well spent. He also stated to the $7500 retainer would most likely not be completely used I would probably have money left over. So I was paying Richards a whopping $350 an hour and what I got in return is what I felt not much work done or any at all impressive results or progress with my case. Doug gave me new crucial information right before I entered the courtroom making a plea. This information was not told to me and was soi crucial it changed my entire decision regarding my plea and my future with this case. When I confronted him with not telling me this new information for this first time at the last minute, he responded by saying they were in emails he sent to me. I know I received nothing like this and when I asked him to please re-forward mr these emails to show me, he just pretended he did not hear me and walked into court. He not only lied to me, had to make the wrong plea based on this new information. After this, Doug wasn't even at all pleasant to meet with and work on my case. For some very strange reason, Doug showed me a letter he produced and would be sent to people representing the state. The letter had statements that accused me of coming to our scheduled appointments, incoherent, horribly clothed, not bathed, and not able to enunciate correctly, basically identifying me a junkie who lives on the street. So false, so hurtful, so confused and so angry at him for doing this and to this day do not fully know why. I fired Doug and he withdrew as my lawyer in court. He was supposed to inform the court of significant medication changes too place recently for me and it could potentially have effected my ability to make sound decisions regarding my plea, Doug chose to just ignore my request. Outside of court I asked why he did not make the statement, his response was is that I fired him as my lawyer. I did, but of course I got ignored but also got charged billable time when he was at that podium that morning. I pay him and he ignores my request. In the end, the retainer had close to $3000 around the time he withdrew as my lawyer. Two weeks later after no billable hours should of been logged, my retainer balance was at $0. After asking for an itemized bill, he refused to send. Doug RIchards is a liar, a thief, a cheat, and from what I saw, a weak defense attorney. By the way, he thinks he is the best around, with a really annoying cocky attitude. I can't believe I involuntarily paid him $7500 for all of this. I cannot emphasize enough how much money that is to me and am having major difficulty financially and mentally with this loss. I do believe that there are people out there that did have a good experience and were happy with Doug RIchards as their lawyer. I also can guarantee there are others out there that had a similar experience as I did and regret the day they met Doug. By the way, something tells me his high rating (5 stars) has been generated falsely and is self proclaimed. To those considering hiring him, do yourself a favor and focus completely on someone else. I swear to GOD all of these statements, allegations, accusations and all relevant facts mentioned are 100% TRUE!!

Someone you can actually trust to do what he says

Doug Richards is upfront, honest and does not pull punches. He is knowledgeable and if it was not for him and his partner Stan I would not be free today. They looked at my case and after proper due diligence realized that I was innocent of the charges and they immediately set about proving my case to... the Assistant United States Attorney by providing a lengthy and accurate account of the events. The AUSA after seeing the documentation was ready to have the case dismissed but needed to save also 'save face' with the courts. Doug and Stan were able to maneuver through the legal entanglement and create an outcome that was satisfactory for all involved. I cannot say enough about this gentleman, I unfortunately have had to deal with many lawyers in regards to this case and other than Doug and Stan all the others did not and could not perform their duties as they portrayed they could. I would never ever hesitate in recommending this person to anyone. If you want the truth without an ego getting in the way talk to Doug Richards

The best criminal law attorney in Colorado

When I hired Doug Richards, I was in a situation where I really didn't know what to do. I'd hired an attorney, but was unsatisfied with their work and their responsiveness on my case. I'd had some speeding tickets, and so forth, but never been in a position to hire a criminal attorney, nor did I thin...k that I ever would be. Basically, I was scared out of my mind and wasn't sure what to do. I interviewed at least a dozen attorneys for my case, but kept getting the impression that my part was to pay huge amounts of money, and their part was to show up. I also asked a lot of attorneys for recommendations, and the name Doug Richards kept coming up. When I met with Mr. Richards, the things that stood out about him during the first few minutes of meeting with him were his intelligence and his attention to detail. There were very important aspects to the case that immediately stuck out to him, but hadn't to other attorneys, some of whom were obscenely expensive. Mr. Richards was extremely thorough. My particular case required a lot of investigation to get to the truth. Mr. Richards had an extremely talented investigator working on my case, and he was very good about explaining what needed to be done, as well as what costs were involved. He's very also very compassionate, which can mean a lot to someone accused of a serious crime. His experience gives him the perspective of the prosecutorial side, which is essential in a criminal case. I cannot say enough positive things about Mr. Richards. I met with attorneys who charge hundreds of thousands of dollars more, and would have hired them if they'd been better for my case. Ultimately, he was the best lawyer for the job. I can't imagine a better advocate to look after someone's interests, defend their constitutional rights, and get to the truth of the matter in any type of criminal case. Hiring Mr. Richards was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I really can't say enough good things about him or his investigator who worked on my case. I know this review is rife with adulation, but as a client, I would highly recommend him to anyone in need of a criminal attorney. If your case is serious, what's really important is who is on your side and who you want standing next to you in court, if that day should come. This is the guy. There are none better.

"Doug has the experience in criminal defines that most attorneys in Colorado do not possess. It is always wise to retain a defense attorney that was a former prosecutor as an understanding of the system from both sides is fundamental for a successful defense. If you are charged with a state or federal offense, Doug is one of the go-to guys in Denver."
