Here is the longer version, which I do encourage you to read if you are searching for a top notch criminal defense lawyer in Colorado… My 25-year old son was arrested in Southwest Colorado and was being held on 100K cash bond only. As a parent, I’m sure you can imagine the fear, panic, confusion, and stress receiving that phone call brought. As a woman who places her hope and trust in GOD, I prayed and asked for divine guidance in choosing the right representation. I was led to Doug. Keep in mind, I did my due diligence in researching and speaking with different criminal defense attorneys in Colorado. My family and I agreed that Doug was the man for this case. Even though Doug is based in Denver he travels all over Colorado to defend clients and went to Southwest Colorado for my son’s case, including visiting him in person in pre-trial custody. My son was facing multiple felony charges and looking at a mandatory prison sentence of 30-plus years. My son had no other felonies and had never been to prison. Doug was able to yield a very favorable outcome for my son without even having to go to trial. Doug got the bond reduced, got my son back home pending the outcome of the case. He also got all the felony charges dismissed. My son ended up with one misdemeanor charge, time served, and no more jail. If you are looking for great representation, I absolutely recommend you choose Doug. He is honest and will not sugar coat anything. He always took time to answer my questions. I never felt like he was inaccessible. In fact, almost every phone call, text, or email was answered immediately or within 24 hours.

DHS in Denver, CO made a finding of child abuse against me, so I hired Doug Cohen as my lawyer to represent me in the case. He is very honest and straight-forward. The case against me was weak, so DHS offered an immediate expungement. Mr. Cohen, being diligent to seek the best possible result for me,... consulted me frequently and was extremely transparent and detailed in everything DHS was doing and saying as well as what his thoughts and guidance were. He said that we should seek to get a reversal in the case, should it not be dragged out for years, thus increasing costs and fees I would incur. We decided to seek a reversal in the ruling, and a date was set for a hearing two years from then. Sewing as how an immediate expungement was very favorable and much more cost effective, Mr. Cohen then advised that fighting for a reversal just did not make much sense from a financial perspective due to the hearing date being so far out. Also, the expungement is a great ruling that should be considered. In the end, I chose the immediate expungement and have no worries about the case any longer. I am very pleased with Mr. Cohen as my lawyer and would hire him again in an instant. He is hard-working, blunt, informative, knowledgeable, tactful, and has integrity to top it all off. I could not recommend Attorney Cohen more. After discussing my case with him, he immediately recognized that the way the police handled my traffic stop was suspect. After spending time doing discovery for my case, Attorney Cohen felt that we would have a good chance at me maintaining my drivers licen...se because of the mistakes made by the officers during my traffic stop. While DMV for DUI cases almost always end with loss of driving privileges, Attorney Cohen was able to successfully argue that I should maintain my driving privileges, and I was able to keep my driver's license without any disruption in my driving rights. Additionally, my two children were in the vehicle with me when I was pulled over for which I was charged with child endangerment. Mr. Cohen was able to get both of those charges dropped during negotiations with the District Attorney's office while also securing a one year deferred sentence for my offense. This means that, as long as I fulfill the requirements of my probation, the charge/conviction will be removed from my record. I could not have been happier with Mr. Cohen's communication, professionalism and willingness to answer questions and provide fantastic representation.

Doug Cohen was extremely helpful in helping me with a citation I (Colorado resident) got in Wyoming. I was found to have a very small amount of marijuana in my car, and Doug helped me navigate the Wyoming court and got me a great deal that ended up being a small fine and some community service hours ...in exchange for a deferred and eventually dropped sentence. He also ensured so I didn’t have to commute from Denver to Wyoming to fulfill my community service hours or any drug testing. Doug is super communicative and, responds quickly to all texts and calls and explains everything really clearly, while also being a really nice person.

I was facing a DUI conviction in Weld County, CO. As someone who had never even been arrested in their life, this was extremely stressful, even more so given the permanence of alcohol convictions in Colorado, and the fact that I rely on driving for my employment. Losing my DL would've turned m...y life upside down, and this is for a first offense with no injury or accident. CO does not mess around with this sort of charge, and if I had tried to go it alone I would've faced the full force of the court and DMV. Doug put together a strategy right away, got me started on all the mitigation while we awaited the court and DMV date. He reviewed all the facts (which admittedly did not look good for me, I did about everything wrong on the stop) and was very frank about my chances. This is something I really came to appreciate about his approach: he will give it to you straight and tell you exactly what are facing and what you need to do to get the best possible outcome. He was able to get the blood test result tossed out due to the police misinforming me of the law, and we managed to not only win the DMV hearing, but got the charge reduced to a non-alcohol offense. This combined with the mitigation he had me do, resulted in me being able to keep my license (and my job!), and reduce my probation requirements. This is excellent result, given the facts of the case. I would say he worked a miracle, but really it was just an experienced and skilled lawyer who knew what he was doing.
