My family has had no experience with lawyers except getting our end of life documents in order. Our 12-year old son went to a classical education charter school where the principal allowed the middle schoolers to partake in a snowball fight for days. The two rules were to only play with those parti...cipating and display moderation. Oh, and there was no adult supervision. By the third day the snow was a huge pile of ice being guarded by the 8th graders, doling out ice to their friends and 7th and 8th graders pelting each other with ice balls. Our son was hit in the head twice with ice, once in his hearing aide and he has sensory processing disorder. When our kid was hit in the head with an ice ball he took that kid to the ground for about a second when the bell rang and the kids went into the school. No kids were hurt or reported anything to the administration. The next day the parent of the boy my son took to the ground called the police and my son was charged with assault. We called Doug based on a recommendation and it was the best thing we could've done. Doug listened to us and what we wanted to happen for our son and he fought for him. The city attorney only read the police report which had nothing substantial in it and cried "guilty". Doug spent many hours talking with the city attorney on behalf of our son, pointing out the school's negligence, the part the other middle school kids' played in the event and the disabilities that our son had. Doug spoke to so many people involved in our son's life to better help his defense. Doug tried to contact the parents of the any other kids on the playground and he even was able to get in touch with the parent who called the police on our son in the first place. Doug Cohen constructed the most amazing Request for Dismissal, citing in detail the negligence of the school, the part the other kids played and again our son's disabilities. We were so impressed by all the work that Doug had done on our son's case that we knew Doug had done everything we had paid him to do....Fight for our son. We were so happy that we found the best attorney to not only get the charges dropped but also prove our son was innocent, highlighting the negligence of the school.
