Jennifer has been licensed in Colorado since 2000 when she began her career as a transactional and litigation attorney in several large, national firms. She was first introduced to family law as a staff attorney at the Colorado Court of Appeals where she drafted appellate opinions in family law and dependency and neglect cases. After working for a premier family law firm, Jennifer founded Schaffner Law to focus on providing high-end legal services to clients in all family law matters.
An experienced appellate practitioner, Jennifer serves as a member of the Appellate Pro Bono screening committe, which helps select appeals for the Colorado Bar Association Appellate Pro Bono program. Her clients appreciate her professionalism, attention to detail, and ability to work effectively with opposing parties and counsel. While comfortable in the courtroom, Jennifer also practices Collaborative Law and serves on the board of the Colorado Collaborative Divorce Professionals.
With her diverse legal background, Jennifer is comfortable with the many areas that intersect with family law such as commercial litigation, mergers and acquisitions and business transactions. She has a particular interest in cases that raise novel issues of law and enjoys delving into complex research of the Rules of Procedure and Title 14. Jennifer has worked in specialized areas such as common law marriages, UCCJEA issues, and parenting time concerns. Jennifer firmly believes that in addition to the legalities and case law in divorce practice, there must also be a recognition of family dynamics and attention paid to the impact on children of divorce.
