Take your money and time else where!

I would give Peggy Bittick zero stars. My husband and I are a young couple and we have not been married very long. However, I have known him since middle school and I will be the first to admit that he has not always made the best choices. Before he was 21 he had two children with 2 different women. ...However, He has turned his life around and after we got married an older friend offered to help us try to get custody of my husbands kids. He offered to lend us the money up front to hire an attorney and made very generous arrangements for us to pay him back. We hired Peggy because our friend went to school with her and he thought she would be sympathetic to our cause. When we met with her, I had already done my research. It is a long sordid tale but it is enough to say that my husband and I knew we would provide a better and more stable home for the kids. I gave Peggy all the facts I had gathered, CPS reports, failed drug tests, failure to complete court ordered rehab and pending criminal charges. She assured us that we had easy cases and that she would fight for us fairly. Well two years later and THOUSANDS of dollars in the hole we were left with settlements that are less favorable than we feel like we should have gotten. Despite the fact that both moms are convicted drug users with impending felony criminal charges. Peggy told us that we had no reason to expect full custody. When we talked about the younger child’s mother getting her rights taken away and the possiblity of me adopting the child due to the fact that her mother would be incarcerated longer for the next five years..She pretty much laughed in my face and told us there was no way in hell a judge would go for that. The fact is that Peggy never really seemed to be on our side and she did not ever seem to give our case any priority. A year into the process we found that the child support payments that were supposed to be dropped after our very first hearing in 2013 (the judge had granted us temporary custody) were still being charged to my husband. Even though Peggy reassured us time and time again that she had taken care of that issue. Because of this we were not able to buy a house since the A/G showed my husband owing back child support money and that seriously affected his credit. When we called and complained to Peggy that the child support issue was STILL not resolved she charged us for the conversation and for fixing the issue. Later we found out there were tons of clerical errors in the order (for example she misspelled a child’s name) and she said she would have to charge us more money to fix the mistakes. The Amicus attorney for the children that she highly recommended was also a disaster . It is clear to me that Peggy’s chief concern in our case was never the best interests of our children it was how much money she could bill and I would never recommend her services to anyone.

Save yourself - Do Not Hire This Attorney

Please please never hire this attorney and I take the time to fill out this survey for your sake so you don't waste your money, time, and to avoid the impending disappointment you will have if you hire her. For us, she did not do her job. She did not request evidence be held and by the time we got t...o court it was disposed of. Also, the law stated, for what we were suing for, we could not sue. Cost me 10,000 because she did not tell me that up front. It was very stressful and frustrating that she took advantage of us. See her pretty office? My money strongly support that. She was unable to proceed, saw me coming, required a 10,000 retainer for a case that could not be won. Please save yourself. Find another attorney.

Honest review

Ms. Bittick was our lawyer and still is our lawyer for the simple reason that she gets the job done. we had a very difficult child custody case, which everyone told us was gong to turn out not in our favor(except Ms. Bittick). We had faith that we were in the right and persisted when naysayers told u...s to submit. Peggy never stopped believing in our case. She worked very hard as did the rest of her team. It took 4 years, a jury trial and appeal to the supreme court of texas, but we prevailed. Now I have read some of these reveiws and I can honestly say that it is not cheap to hire a good attourney. But you get what you pay for and We won our case because Ms. Bittick worked her butt off for us. We have and will continue to use Ms. Bittick as our family lawyer. We can give you one last comment, Ms. Bittick did a fantastic job on our case. way to go!

Quick and Competent

I hired Peggy to set up some corporations, DBA's and help set up a small business. Wow, was I impressed with her knowledge of the material and the system to get the job done. She had my paperwork done and certificates of formation in my hand in less than 2 weeks. She walked me through what my respons...ibilities were going forward and help me understand all the requirements. Her fees for all this help were incredibly reasonable. The knowledge she imparted and the understanding I now have were worth the extra money above the state fees for setting up corporations. I will absolutely return to Peggy for any other legal needs I have. Her staff was helpful and friendly and I highly recommend her for anyone else needing an attorney!

Don't hire Peggy Bittick

I hired Peggy Bittick on a referral for a divorce case. It was all about the money with her. I didn't know half of the things she and her staff were doing and that I was being charged for. She told me her staff was very competent, and that it would be cheaper to talk to them than her. Every time I ta...lked with her two staff people, they always said they needed to talk to Peggy about it. So I got charged for talking to them and then waiting for Peggy's response. I was charged again when she acted. She asked me to get her a bunch of phone records, which I emailed to her and she never put into use. On top of all this, I negotiated all of the details of my divorce with my ex-wife, and Peggy was simply a puppet to our negotiations. After the mediation, she told me there was only one more document she would have to draft and the opposing lawyer would finalize and present to the court. That was January. I had over $2000 not used at that point. Well, April rolled around, the divorce was finalized, she used up the remaining $2000 for $4000 and was asking for $500 more. I was billed a couple times for corrections to documents that either her or the opposing counsel were responsible for. Use a mediator and settle your differences for $500 or so without a lawyer. Don't hire Peggy Bittick.

Professional misconduct

This lawyer was disciplined by a state licensing authority in 2008.

Public Reprimand issued in TX, 2008

updated on 06/14/2011

Public reprimand means an attorney did something wrong but may still practice law. The State gives the lawyer a public reprimand in hopes that he or she will not repeat the behavior. Details of the infraction are made part of the public record.

Peggy’s comment:

“A Texas Lotto winner gifted me the balance of his retainer which was a large sum of money in a case where I obtained for him custody of his son and terminated his high child support obligation. After confirming the gift, I accepted it partly but I carried it as a credit for him, in case he needed future legal work. Years later, he wanted his money back. After obtaining advice from peers and others I respect, I fought the grievance. For more information, please contact PSB directly: 2814853500.”
