Great Attorney

I have used Peggy twice. She has taken care of what I needed on both occasions with speed and integrity. I have also consulted her a couple of times with no action needed. I will continue to use her for all of my legal needs.

Take your money and time else where!

I would give Peggy Bittick zero stars. My husband and I are a young couple and we have not been married very long. However, I have known him since middle school and I will be the first to admit that he has not always made the best choices. Before he was 21 he had two children with 2 different women. ...However, He has turned his life around and after we got married an older friend offered to help us try to get custody of my husbands kids. He offered to lend us the money up front to hire an attorney and made very generous arrangements for us to pay him back. We hired Peggy because our friend went to school with her and he thought she would be sympathetic to our cause. When we met with her, I had already done my research. It is a long sordid tale but it is enough to say that my husband and I knew we would provide a better and more stable home for the kids. I gave Peggy all the facts I had gathered, CPS reports, failed drug tests, failure to complete court ordered rehab and pending criminal charges. She assured us that we had easy cases and that she would fight for us fairly. Well two years later and THOUSANDS of dollars in the hole we were left with settlements that are less favorable than we feel like we should have gotten. Despite the fact that both moms are convicted drug users with impending felony criminal charges. Peggy told us that we had no reason to expect full custody. When we talked about the younger child’s mother getting her rights taken away and the possiblity of me adopting the child due to the fact that her mother would be incarcerated longer for the next five years..She pretty much laughed in my face and told us there was no way in hell a judge would go for that. The fact is that Peggy never really seemed to be on our side and she did not ever seem to give our case any priority. A year into the process we found that the child support payments that were supposed to be dropped after our very first hearing in 2013 (the judge had granted us temporary custody) were still being charged to my husband. Even though Peggy reassured us time and time again that she had taken care of that issue. Because of this we were not able to buy a house since the A/G showed my husband owing back child support money and that seriously affected his credit. When we called and complained to Peggy that the child support issue was STILL not resolved she charged us for the conversation and for fixing the issue. Later we found out there were tons of clerical errors in the order (for example she misspelled a child’s name) and she said she would have to charge us more money to fix the mistakes. The Amicus attorney for the children that she highly recommended was also a disaster . It is clear to me that Peggy’s chief concern in our case was never the best interests of our children it was how much money she could bill and I would never recommend her services to anyone.

Your chld and your families worst nightmare.

I recently used this attorney and wow was I surprised. She is way to expensive and over priced. She took that retaining fee and did nothing except charge for every little thing. One night we called her about 10 times because the ex had taken the child and we were very worried because peggy had told u...s that she had taken care of everything, ha. man was i in for a surprise. She did nothing but charge us for 15 min for every call when she never even answered and every e-mail we sent out. But she did call us back, it was at 10:30 that night. Please read ther reviews because what these people are saying is very true. She will take your money and run. I spoke with other attorneys to see if peggy was doing me right and they looked at the paperwork and laughed. Please do your homework on this woman

Please don't use her - you will waste time and money!

We hired Peggy as a family lawyer for our custody revision case that was disputed; so it was really a custody case. We hired her solely on the advice of someone that testified on a couple of her cases as an expert. Everything that the other reviews said (except the good one) is true. She promised ...us the world, said she would hit the case hard, get the amicus to do his job as soon as he was appointed, and get this case settled. Well, the only thing she did was waste our time and money. As soon as she was hired, we started noticing things were not being done, we wouldn't hear anything; we would have to ask questions because we weren't being kept abreast of any information. Also, she didn't realize in our court (Harris County, 310th) that she had to do certain procedures and the case got denied. So that set us back 2 months! Then, we really started not getting any responses - but we were SURE being billed for every e-mail and phone call we made to see if she was actually doing her job. When we finally started looking at getting a new lawyer, we found these reviews and we knew we had to fire her. She is terrible as a lawyer and a professional as well. We lost $2300 of retainer because we had to get someone else - please don't go to her. Some of our lessons learned were 1) READ THE REVIEWS & write them for others to get the benefit of your experience 2) Make sure your lawyer is practicing in just one type of law practice - Peggy practices in all kinds (Jack of all trades, master of NONE) 3) Make sure they are board-certified in the type of case you need 4) If possible, especially in a family law case, make sure they are familiar with your district and get one in your area 5) looking back (lessons learned), people that recommend lawyers must know not only how a person performs in court, but how they perform behind the scenes to get the case ready and heard.

Your Children's Best Friend in Child Custody & Divorce Proceedings

Peggy's an excellent choice for a divorcing parent who puts integrity, honesty and child welfare at the forefront of all communications. Peggy handled my child custody/support/visitation & divorce proceedings (with an added jurisdictional issue) which were all bundled into one giant mess. I was satis...fied with the turnout of my case and her handling of it, including her legal advice, knowledge of pertinent case law & statutes and personability. Payment: she bills by increments, requires a retainer up front & prompt payment of all balances due upon receipt just like every other attorney with whom I've worked - no surprises. She price-quotes accurately based on honest presentation of facts and issues, is exceptionally reasonably priced, and provides impeccable legal advice. Pros: compassion, understanding, patience, life experience, knowledge of Brazoria County ins & outs, dedicated to child welfare, personable. Cons: bristly office staff, no payment plan options. In sum, 2 thumbs up.

Professional misconduct

This lawyer was disciplined by a state licensing authority in 2008.

Public Reprimand issued in TX, 2008

updated on 06/14/2011

Public reprimand means an attorney did something wrong but may still practice law. The State gives the lawyer a public reprimand in hopes that he or she will not repeat the behavior. Details of the infraction are made part of the public record.

Peggy’s comment:

“A Texas Lotto winner gifted me the balance of his retainer which was a large sum of money in a case where I obtained for him custody of his son and terminated his high child support obligation. After confirming the gift, I accepted it partly but I carried it as a credit for him, in case he needed future legal work. Years later, he wanted his money back. After obtaining advice from peers and others I respect, I fought the grievance. For more information, please contact PSB directly: 2814853500.”
