After active duty, Daniel served over 3 years in the Texas Army National Guard while completing his undergraduate degree in business administration and finance at UT-Pan American.
Daniel attended law school from 2004-2007 at the University of Texas Tech School of Law where he served on the Editorial Board of the popular Texas Bank Lawyer journal and as president of the law school's Corporate & Bankruptcy Law Society. During that time, Daniel also earned an M.B.A. from the University of Texas Tech Rawls College of Business, served as a judicial clerk for the 13th Court of Appeals, and served as a legal clerk for the Texas Department of Banking.
