Camisha L. Simmons primarily focuses her practice on the representation of debtors, creditors and other parties and stakeholders in complex restructuring, bankruptcy, litigation and finance matters. She has extensive experience representing debtors and creditors in chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings and related litigation and out-of-court restructuring matters.
She is the Founder and Managing member of the law firm Simmons Legal PLLC. She founded the firm after practicing in New York and Dallas for close to 8 years as an associate attorney for the international and global law firms of Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, DLA Piper and Norton Rose Fulbright US LLP (formerly Fulbright & Jaworski).
In addition to her legal practice, she serves as an Affiliate Professor of Law at the University of North Texas College of Law in Dallas. She is a contributing writer for the American Lawyer Media online news service and a coordinating editor of the American Bankruptcy Institute Journal. She also is a frequent speaker on various bankruptcy, restructuring, finance and litigation topics.
From 2006-2007, Ms. Simmons was a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Mary F. Walrath, Judge of the United States Bankruptcy Court, District of Delaware (Chief Judge from 2003-2008).
She holds a J.D., magna cum laude and an M.B.A. from Texas Tech University, an M.Ed. from the University of Maryland, College Park and a B.B.A. from Campbell University. Prior to beginning her legal career, she served on active duty in the United States Army as a personnel services soldier from 1999 to 2003.
