I didn't know what a patent attorney did....but now I do. Boy did I get lucky!

People who want to sell a million dollar plus home don't put a For-Sale-By-Owner in their front yard, now do they? No, they don't. If you think you can file a patent application by yourself, think again. My bet is if you try it on your own, you'll fail. This was my first invention. I didn't know ...where to start. I read everything on the USPTO.GOV website and realized one thing, I needed professional assistance. Sure, I knew it would cost me money, but I believed so strongly in the merit of my invention, I didn't hesitate to invest the money to properly protect its value. Now that I have completed the process, I am convinced I got really lucky to find Basil. At first, I was overly cautious who I let look at my designs, which is something you should do as well. Basil took the time to understand every aspect of my invention, down to the last washer, nut and screw...and then he crafted an explanation of its design and function it in a way that completely differentiates my design from every other invention that had a similar name. Here again, rather than take the risk, he suggested we file the patent under a better name and convey the art in a way that the US Patent and Trademark Office examiner most certainly will have to agree... that my invention is truly one-of-a-kind. When it comes to the process, he explained options in a way that let me make the decision without imploring me to do this or that. Because of his clear and concise explanations, I elected to to file a provisional patent application more than a month before filing the non-provisional patent. I viewed it like an insurance policy as it helped me sleep better knowing that I could take the additional time to properly develop the perfect set of patent illustrations in a way that a novice could quickly understand how it works. He also assisted me in filing a trademark application for the company name, which may not be important for everyone, but I bet Bill Gates and Steve Jobs did the same. Okay, seriously, I don't think I'm in their league but adding that little 'TM' at the end of the company name didn't cost much but I viewed it as important. I would strongly recommend Basil as someone who can take a neophyte like me, or a seasoned engineer steeped in filing patent applications, and he'll prepare an application that you will not only have confidence the USPTO will most likely approve, but you'll be equally glad you chose him to be your professional resource.

Finally...a lawyer who has the answers and actually calls me back

I would like to thank Basil Angelo for literally changing my life. My invention has been in my head and on scrap paper in my house and office for years. The patent process can be complicated and intimidating. I have met with many attorneys over the years and always decided it was just too much for... me to handle. Then I met Basil Angelo and his team. They were so informative, knowledgeable, and responsive. He was always available to answer questions and give sound advice. He has been with me throughout the entire process and I am so grateful I found him. I will be sending all my friends, family and anyone in need of a patent his way!

Professional and Personable

I have worked with several patent attorneys in the past. Most of the time, there was a lot of frustration and delays. Not so with Basil Angelo. He is clear concise and to the point. He delivers what he says and when he says. I find working with him to be a pleasure. He is very professional and ...personable. Thanks for everything, Basil!

Looking for a Patent Attorney

I have my name on several patents, but they were all applied for by the companies I worked for. This was the first time I looked for an attorney to apply for a patent for me. Basil was recommended by an attorney I have worked with before. Basil's business plan with fixed rates for each ste...p of the project, lets you know how much it is going to cost to get the patent paper work done. This is important as most patents do not pay off. We exchanged a lot of email and phone calls over the details of the patent, with Basil explaining and expanding the patent claims over the narrow claims I first envisioned. I enjoyed working with him and he spent a lot of time with me, I am glad I wasn't paying by the minute.

"I endorse this lawyer. Mr. Angelo has a superior intellect and an impeccable work ethic. While preparing for, and then trying, a difficult IP case, Mr. Angelo continually devised solutions for what seemed to be insoluble problems. His mastery of computer science and electronics was supremely helpful not only through the electronically-stored-information discovery battles, but also in the preparation of the key technical witness at trial. Mr. Angelo is a very fine, very talented attorney."

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
