Gary P. Katz

 Mr. Katz earned his Eagle Scout and graduated from Wayne Hills High School in New Jersey in 1992.  He then received a Bachelor of Science in Geological Sciences from Rutgers University in 1996 and received a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Rutgers University School of Law in 1999. At Rutgers University, he was on the lightweight crew team for four years earning three varsity letters and received the Scholar-Athlete award for having the highest G.P.A. on the team.
 
Mr. Katz's intellectual property experience is focused primarily on the areas of U.S. and foreign applications for patent, including applications relating to oil exploration, petroleum engineering, off-shore technology, mechanical, chemical, refining technologies and computer technologies.  Mr. Katz's intellectual property litigation experience focuses primarily on the areas of patent infringement and licensing, validity and patentability opinions.

While in Law School, Mr. Katz worked as a legislative aide. As a legislative aide, he handled requests from constituents and lobbyists with state agencies and evaluated and drafted legislation for the Assemblyman, constituents and lobbyists.

In 2000, Mr. Katz joined ExxonMobil as a patent attorney for the Upstream Research Company. At the Upstream Research Company he drafted and prosecuted a worldwide patent docket for several divisions and Imperial Oil in Canada. He handled all legal requests as primary attorney for the reservoir management division including corporate, transactional work, contracts, licensing agreements, and joint industry research, exploration and production projects.

In 2005, Mr. Katz was transferred to Downstream Research and Engineering at ExxonMobil and focused on refining and chemical finished products primarily drafting and prosecuting patents worldwide. He also negotiated and drafted licensing, technology, joint research agreements, freedom to operate surveys, counseled clients and created a new foreign filing procedure that saved several million dollars in transactional and legal costs each year.

Since 2010, Mr. Katz has represented private clients and start-up companies, with intellectual property, financing, transactional work and litigation services. He enjoys using his diversified experience to help clients find creative solutions to achieve their goals.  Mr. Katz is married and has a daughter and three sons.
