Shahin Zamir

One year ago today, on August 31st, 2018 - Attorney Shahin Zamir gave me hope and got me out of a mess I should have never been involved in to begin with. I was arrested for the possession of a controlled substance (a state jail felony) in northern Harris County, Texas. I had never been charged with ...a felony before, never even had a single conviction on my record, and now this case was about to change my life & turn me into a second-class citizen as well as destroy my chances of getting financial aid for college, of ever getting a home in a nice area, and most importantly, of ever getting a good job in my life. After my arrest and posting $100 bond in the county jail, I could never fall asleep for days on end, I had to go for a walk every 20 minutes to avoid going insane, and I felt my life was in jeopardy - all over getting arrested by racist cops who didn't care to let me explain my innocence and just wanted to throw in another person of color in a government cage and enforce the failed "war on drugs". It would have been one thing if the substance was mine, but it wasn't - which made the injustice of my arrest even more awful. The police essentially conducted an investigation in a shady manner, and acted like their wrongful ways were just a typical night of police work for them. It was absolutely disgusting, I was just another innocent man to haul off to jail before their lunch break in the country that incarcerates a quarter of the world's prison population in an extremely punitive system compared to all other industrialized nations - a racist and atrocious system that has its origins through slave patrols and extremely hierarchical structures. I looked on avvo.com for lawyers in Houston - and I had a bad experience with my first lawyer back when I was arrested last time (also my first time/another drug arrest that occurred back in 2013 when I was 18 in high school) who never showed up in court, always had paralegals show up for him, never answered the phone, and ended up getting me deferred adjudication for my misdemeanor drug charge even though it was my first arrest ever. However, Shahin Zamir was different. When I called him, somehow I knew from the very beginning of our first conversation this man would SAVE my life. The fee he charged was reasonable, he appeared more personal to me and wasn't just another lawyer upholding a fake 'professional persona' or a facade - he ACTUALLY seemed like a real friend and you could tell he was relateable to you and vice versa. I found that he knows some Persian as well, which made my mother and I more comfortable and confident in his abilities, since Persian people like looking out for other Persian people. Shahin never made any promises, but in the end, I knew that hiring him as my lawyer would be the best thing I've ever done. He answered just about all of my calls, reassured me he would do his best to represent me and made me feel okay. I thought my case would drag on but he got my case DISMISSED only a month after I got charged! I wasn't expecting that at all - when I walked in court and saw him standing there with a smile on his face, I knew deep inside of me that it was going to be good news, and it turned out to be the BEST news! Shahin, thank you for turning my drug case into a thing of the past, something I can look back at and laugh. Thank you for saving my life and listening to my side of the story. I hope this review helps people reading this who're looking for the best lawyer possible for the best outcome, because if your case is in the Houston area - I highly recommend hiring Shahin Zamir as he has excellent communication, a ton of experience, and connections with the opposing side from when he was a prosecutor. I called Mr. Zamir immediately after being being released from jail for a charge of Family Assault by Impeding Breathing. I was a nervous wreck and full of questions. He very patiently answered all my questions and made me feel comfortable that he would be more than capable and willing to help me. ... Within less than 24 hours notice, Shahin attended my first court appearance with me, and at that point I could tell right away that Shahin knew his way around the courtroom. He had a very confident disposition and knew all the prosecutors, the judge, and all the court staff. He was prompt in all email and phone communication throughout the entire process. What impressed me the most, was that he never promised me anything regarding my case, but assured me he would formulate the best possible defense strategy. He showed me the grand jury packet he created for my case and I was so proud of his work, I had to show it to my friends and family, who were also very worried, but was put at ease after reading the documentation Shahin was presenting. I was so happy when he told me that he had gotten my case THROWN OUT! He knew how much stress I was going through having a felony charge hanging over my head, and I could tell he was genuinely happy for me. I obviously hope I never need his services again, but if I did, I would hire him again with no hesitation. He gave me my life back!
