My horrible experience

I have been having problems, of an ethical nature, for a long time regarding the gross conduct of Mr. Lopez. Yes, I have tried to handle this matter on my own by faxes but to no avail. I tried recently to have mediation but he "declined." He is a man of bad faith and ill will towards me. Mr. Lope...z did not have a web site when I hired him. In May, 2018, when I discovered his web site, I found out that he deals with employment law only 10% of the time in his practice (he changed it to 20% after I wrote to him). I faxed him in May, 2018, that had he informed me at the $800 consultation he charged, I would not had paid him $16,000 to take my HISD termination case which lasted a few days. Even 20% is too inexperienced (and it showed) to represent me. I was a teacher (24 years) and $16,800 is a lot of money to pay anyone. And it gets worse. Once my check cleared my bank, he and his office manager/wife started treating me with gross disrespect. For example, he constantly put me down verbally and demonstrated how out-of-his-element he was at my brief termination hearing. He did not even give a closing so that he did not have to come back after Memorial Day. The hearing was decided against me and I had to fire him immediately and represent myself in front of the HISD School Board. I had no more money to appeal. I am most willing to take a modern and upgraded polygraph, is Mr. Lopez? All of the above has been written in my faxes to him which he completely has ignored. I also put all of the above in my mediation which he declined to participate.

Events related to this review occurred nearly 20 years ago, in the period May to July, 2000. Facts related to my representation are a matter of public record. That is why I had no hesitancy in rejecting the reviewer’s demand after all these years that I pay him $50,000 or he would submit an unfavorable review In 2000, my practice was concentrated in employment and civil rights matters. I have since adjusted my practice to accommodate my being appointed to domestic and international arbitration panels. . I am pleased to stand on my record, including biographical information and other client reviews published by Avvo. In 2007, I received from the Texas Bar Foundation the Ronald D. Secrest Outstanding Trial Lawyer Award, given annually to only one Texas lawyer.

David Lopez on moving firms

Mr. Lopez defended me when a previous employer tried to prevent me from working with my clients that I had cultivated over the past 20 plus years. The case was very complex involving the security industry, fiduciary duties and a time line that went back over those 20 years. I felt that at all time...s David had my best interest in mind. Numerous times he reached out to the prosecuting attorney to try to settle outside the court. Although the case lasted 8 months I felt that David stayed a step ahead of the other side and kept me in the loop. David is very tactical in his approach. Always thinking one or two steps ahead of the opposition. I sought Mr. Lopez's advice before I left my previous employer. His recommendations proved to be right on the money. I was able to retain almost 100% of my clients going forward. David is highly skilled at getting to the heart of the matter with his verbal and written communications. When it comes to depositions and examining the other side he is quick to the point and very decisive. At times I almost felt sorry for the other side that was being questioned. You want an attorney that is no nonsense and that wont waist everyone's time with meaningless questions. David Lopez is that attorney. He truly cares about his clients and will go above and beyond to get a satisfactory outcome. I highly recommend David Lopez and his entire staff. My advice for anyone who is contemplating moving firms with a clientele that is important to you is to hire David early and listen to his advice.

Highest rank for an excellent lawyer

Mr Lopez represented me in a very fraught dispute at an institute of higher learning. We crafted together what we thought would be a reasonable settlement, and that is exactly what we got. The institution is one that seldom settles; EEOC were very surprised, we were told , at our success. Mr Lop...ez was always professional, efficient and kind. I recommend him as highly as possible.

David Lopez was absolutely fantastic. At my request, Mr. Lopez traveled to my place of employment to represent me and meet with attorneys and the CEO - at least two or three times. He listened to my employment concerns and did what I expected him to do. He provided expert advice, guidance, and feedba...ck. He was in continuous communication with me - even as I traveled out-of-state. Mr. Lopez was able to extend my employment to the end of my contractual agreement - about six months. I am convinced that Mr. Lopez's representation helped me to stay employed for the duration of my contractual period. I paid the fee that gave me unlimited access to Mr. Lopez - not the hourly rate. Employment issues and disagreements are very serious and can impact your career and life. I strongly recommend that when you employ Mr. Lopez you pay the fee that gives you unlimited access - it is well worth it. During the last weeks of my employment, Mr. Lopez contacted me to make certain my employer was living up to the signed agreement. If they were not, I was to contact him. This demonstrates that Mr. Lopez sincerely cares about his clients. I could write more but words alone cannot do Mr. Lopez justice. He has exceptional technical skills, excellent human skills, and great perceptual skills. He is highly professional, ethical, honest, trustworthy, dependable, and hard working. He put in many hours in studying, researching, and preparing to represent me. Mr. Lopez has a wealth of practical experience coupled with a sterling academic record. I strongly recommend that you hire Mr. Lopez. You will be glad you did.

Associate Professor within the Texas A&M University System

Mr. Lopez and his very able staff saved my career several years ago when he defended me in a wrongful termination/retaliation case. Just to know that there was an advocate for my position as well as a legal defense was empowering. His commitment to resolving things through mediation was commendable t...hough his forte is definitely in the court room. I have since referred others to Mr. Lopez because he is fair, thoughtful, and frankly brilliant as a lawyer. More recently I consulted Mr. Lopez on an employment matter and his advice was right on the mark. I was able to resolve the matter quickly on my own without taking mis-steps though there was probably a strong legal case for discrimination. He is quite simply a remarkable man and person and an outstanding attorney. Mrs. Lopez, his wife, directs the office and its operations and entire staff works well together with the client like a family though it is clearly a professional relationship. I have the most profound respect and admiration for Mr. Lopez.

Public Reprimand issued in TX, 2005

updated on 10/11/2017

Public reprimand means an attorney did something wrong but may still practice law. The State gives the lawyer a public reprimand in hopes that he or she will not repeat the behavior. Details of the infraction are made part of the public record.

David’s comment:

“This public reprimand involved a complaint that I did not inform my client about the filing of an administrative charge, even though by the time I was engaged by the client the time for filing the charge already had expired. I agreed to the public reprimand with that specific understanding.”
