A WINNING DEFENSE GIVES YOU YOUR LIFE BACK! BOARD CERTIFIED IN CRIMINAL LAW. CALL 855-976-4670

Allen Tanner has extensive experience in representing people who are facing serious criminal charges. During his years as a criminal defense lawyer, he has represented thousands of individuals charged with all types of felony offenses. He has tried felony jury trials involving capital murder, sexual assault, burglary, aggravated robbery, Medicare fraud and drugs. He has tried 15 death penalty cases to juries in Houston, Victoria, Fredericksburg, Corpus Christi and Austin. His most newsworthy case was that of Angel Maturino Resendez, known as the "Railroad Killer," in February of 2000.

Many of Allen Tanner's clients plead Not Guilty and take their case before a jury. As to the guilt issue, Allen Tanner realizes that nothing in life is more serious than to be falsely accused of committing a crime. He understands that serving time for a crime you did not commit is unimaginable. However, many clients choose to admit their guilt. Allen Tanner then attempts to lessen their punishment whereby they receive pretrial diversion, deferred adjudication or a lesser sentence from a jury. He often uses psychiatric testimony to attempt to explain and mitigate his clients’ actions.

Allen Tanner graduated from Johns Hopkins University in 1978 and the University of San Francisco School of Law in 1981. After passing the Texas Bar exam in 1981, he worked as a prosecutor at the Harris County District Attorney's office in Houston until 1985, when he opened his own private law practice. The only types of cases he has handled are criminal defense cases. Allen Tanner became Board Certified in criminal law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in 1989. He has never been disciplined by the state bar of Texas.

Excellent A+++ Attorney - “Cream of the Crop”.
Allen Tanner Excellent A+++ attorney. He defended me on a white collar case and it was dismissed!! Word of mouth is how I found him. Next was google search. The two combined, I felt safe and in good hands. My case was dismissed! But I wasn’t prepared for the excellent attorney/client relationship through the duration of my case. I had preconceived expectations and communicating with him mostly through his legal assistant is what I was prepared for. Allen Tanner was available for talk and consult from the moment I made contact and through the end. There was not a single phone call or message he did not personally return. Friendly, charismatic, and empathetic, he treats you and makes you feel as if you are his only client and works hard for you. I am absolutely sure I would not have found a better defense attorney. Without doubt, he is - the cream of the crop. Thank you Allen for your professionalism, hard work, compassion and dedication. And above all my Freedom!

Great lawyer, person and consultant
I was recommended Mr Tanner. When I first met him he gave me a good vibe about him. Over the years due to covid my case was procrastinated. I got to know Mr. Tanner and he always listened to what I had to say even if it wasn't about the case. Just someone to vent to about life. One thing about Mr. Tanner he always told me the truth and kept me informed. This is probably one of the few and greatest lawyers still out there. I greatly appreciated knowing Mr. Tanner. You will not regret hiring him, he will fight for you and your freedom.

Felony case dismissed! Very thankful for Allen Tanner
My parents found Allen while I was still in prison about to be released to a felony detainer in Houston for forgery. Allen was extremely kind and helpful to my parents who were unfamiliar both with this process and the Houston area itself. Allen was kind enough to drive them to and from the bail bondsman and the hotel they were staying so they would know how to get around. I had a no bond case and Allen still managed to get me a bond set and I was released the very next morning after I arrived. He has kept in good contact since my release and has always made me feel very confident that he was truly working for me. He called last night to let me know he got my case dismissed. Wow! I never had to worry about anything, Allen was on top of it the whole way. The very reasonable one time fee we paid for Allen to take my case was all that was ever asked of me even after he had gotten it dismissed. I even offered to pay extra and he declined. Allen went above and beyond our expectations and we are very grateful. Thanks, again Allen.

Criminal defense
Mr. Tanner was brought to my attention as a good lawyer . I’m not from Texas and didn’t have a clue on which direction to go in to get pass this charge i was facing. I was very pleased with his hard work and dedication in fighting my case. He was easy to talk to and help me relax as well as my family. I do not believe that anyone could handle my case as well as he did, as he went above and beyond what was expected of him. I felt he was very upfront and honest through the entire process and kept me in the loop regarding everything that was going on. Should any of my friends or family need an attorney in the future, I would definintely recommend him.

An experienced and professional attorney if there ever was one.
Mr. Tanner is the best attorney that I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. I was facing serious charges. My stomach was in knots. Allen gave me his experienced counsel on the pros and cons of my available options. My best option was not good. It was simply the least of the bad. After discussing them at length, I took his advice and somehow received a judgment that surprised us both. I owe Allen a debt that I will never be able to pay.

Best Lawyer in SETX
Allen Tanner saved my family. He saved my husbands freedom. My husband is a felon and served approximately 5 years in prison on a drug charge 10 years ago. He since straightened his life up and dedicated his life to his family and his sons and is the best man I know. Unfortunately trouble found him again this time while he was at work. He was charged with two counts of possession. I found Allen Turner on a Google search and after reading several reviews I knew he was the right choice for us. My husband called him and left him a voicemail explaining what he was facing and within a hour he called back and agreed to take the case. They didn't formally meet until the first court date. Because my husband was a felon we knew we had an uphill battle but Allen Tanner assured us that he was not going to let my husband go back to prison. He worked for us even when we didn't have the money to pay him at the time. He was extremely busy with other cases and still made my husband feel like a priority. He would text my husband on the weekends just to check on him and make sure he was holding up and continue to have faith. After going to court every month for almost a year Mr. Tanner came and told my husband that the case has been dismissed. Harris County is infamous for throwing the book at everyone but especially a felon so hearing those words come out of Mr. Tanners mouth felt better than hitting the lottery. You can't put a pricetag on your life or your freedom. I don't believe that with any other lawyer we would have had seen the same outcome. Allen Tanner is hands down the best attorney but he is also a good person and man. He will work hard for you. I hope this helps anyone out there that may find themselves or a loved one in a similar unfortunate situation and can't decide which attorney to choose from because there are so many but I know we got the best around and our outcome proves it. Thank you Mr. Tanner. We will forever be greatful for you and your fight to save my boys from losing their daddy and me from losing sharing a life with my husband. Everyday is more precious now BC of your commitment to us. Thank you again.

Great Lawyer
Allen did a fantastic job of representing me during my case. The whole way through the process he always kept me informed of what was happening and really iterated that he was on "My side". One of the major things I was truly impressed with was Allen's confidence in winning my case, which he actually did. Great lawyer all around.

Allen got me a grand jury no-bill for a violent felony charge
Allen Tanner represented me in the summer of 2013 on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon - a serious felony that would have incarcerated me for 20 years if convicted, particularly because it involved the near death of someone with the use of a handgun. Allen was highly recommended to me from two highly respected lawyers - one federal prosecutor and another criminal attorney. I had to chose between Dick DeGuerin (who has been on the cover of Time magazine) and Allan and I chose Allen; I'm fortunate I did that. I was given a Grand Jury No Bill and all charges were dropped without even going to an arraignment. Allen even covered the fees for the expunction of my charges at his cost! Allen worked harder and better than any attorney I have ever known. He would call me and update me on my case at all hours. He was also very familiar with all the people in the courts - ranging from the judges, prosecutors, and even the bailiffs. He tries major criminal cases on a daily basis against all of these prosecutors and in front of all of these judges. He knows their strengths and weaknesses and will use that knowledge and his legal cunning to keep you out of grinder known as the Texas Justice System. Because of Allen's skills as a defense lawyer, I was able to keep my freedom, my good name, my job, and still have the option to get a job that requires a security clearance.

Great Lawyer
I had a case against me for a false report. I got Allen Tanner who was referred to me from a friend. The DA was pushing for a fine and 100 days in jail. We keep post ponding the courts dates and Mr. Tanner kept me informed at to what was happening on his end. He always returned my phone calls if he missed them and never misinformed me of anything. MR. Tanner talked to the judge and got me off with just a small fine. I would recommend Mr. Tanner to anyone for anything. He is very intelligant at what he does for a living.

Overall great attorney
Mr. Tanner was my court appointed lawyer for a probation violation (felony drug possession was original charge) back in 2005/2006. He worked harder (and had better results) than the lawyer I paid 5,000$ for. Allen Tanner worked hard to ensure the jail would administer my medication they had been neglecting to give me. He really cares and works for his clients.

Great lawyer!!
I was charged with possession of an illegal drug, but Allen didnt judge me but fought for me. He showed up to all my court dates on time, and was always easy to talk to. After a few rescheduled court dates, Allen fought for my case and got it dropped completely. Allen is not only a great lawyer, but a great person. I recommend him over any lawyer in Houston.

One Of The Best Criminal Defense Lawyers In Texas " No Ones Beneath The Law withTanner"
I'm a 42 yr old African American male. My problems started 24 yrs ago, at the age of 17. I first met Mr. Tanner after making a request to the Judge to replace the court appointed attorney, who couldn’t seem to stop resetting my court case while I sat in the county jail. The judge then assigned Mr. Allen Tanner to my case. Mr. Tanner was Knowledgeable, and very concerned about the charges that were filed against me in the Felony District Court 178th I was being accused of injury to a child, and after hearing the facts about what really happened, Mr. Tanner knew the only way to get this behind me was to bring the case to trial. After preparations and getting the facts and witnesses together a trial date was scheduled. The day of the Trial Mr. Tanner astound the jury with nothing but the truth and facts of this case. The Former Houston City Council Member Joe Roach, who at the time was the prosecuting attorney had to Acknowledge Mr. Tanner’s Professionalism and passion for the case. I can remember palms sweating heart racing and about to faint when the jury had decided. The verdict came quickly, it was less than an hour when Joe Roach whispered to Allen "I think you got this one". The Jury came out and read the verdict... NOT GUILTY. I couldn’t really think at the time with so much going on. What I could remember is the Jury being very upset with the prosecuting attorney, I still remember Joe Roach standing in front of the Jury hands stretched out saying " I was only doing my Job" In a separate incident while being incarcerated in the county jail awaiting trial for the injury to a child case, I was accused/charged of assaulting an officer. Bottom line, I didn’t do it. I was the one who was assaulted by three officers. After the incident actually happened the Sargent on duty ask both me and the officers what happened. After explaining that the officer who actually initiated the assault to me, not only assaulted me, but used racial slurs, the Sargent on duty turned his back and said "Right'em up". A Right-Up, at that moment I thought that meant loss of privileges or no visitations. A day later I heard my name being called and received an indictment hand delivered thru the bars of the Harris County Jail by the same Sargent who was in charge the day of the incident. “Here we go again I thought” I guess Deputy Leal the other two jailers and the Sargent may have thought this would be an open and shut case, simply because when it came time to bring this issue to court Officer/Deputy Leal was sitting in the court room, I can remember he had a devilish smile on his face when he saw me shackled being escorted in. I noticed how that smiled turned upside down when they all found out who my Attorney was. When Allen Tanner walked in something happened, not for sure what it was but he said the D.A wanted to talk to me, I agreed. She specifically asked, what would you like to do, I replied and said I have a lawyer and I'm sure we're gonna try this case in front of a jury have you spoken to my Lawyer, she replied and said that’s why I'm talking to you Sir. Bottom line to make a long story short the case never made it to trial, it was dismissed I keep a Certified Copy of the Disposition of these cases to remind me of how lucky I was to have been a client of Mr. Allen Tanner, and if all this isn’t enough to show the Virtue, Courage ,Diligence and Tenacity of this criminal Defense Attorney then I don’t know what else to say. Oh wait, maybe I do. All this happened over 24 yr's ago, and back then I was 17 yr's old indigent and didn’t have the money, Allen Tanner at the time was a Court appointed attorney. The only other thing I can say is you can trust this Lawyer. Remember If he's your attorney let Mr.Tanner do what he's experienced at doing …..winning cases or getting the best legal results Possible in your FAVOR.

WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE
Mr. Tanner is one of the most well respected attorneys in town. I asked around when deciding who to hire for my case, and not one attorney or judge had a bad word to say about Mr. Tanner. He did a great job representing me, and always kept me in the loop. He was easy to get ahold of, and truly wants the best for his clients. Everyone in the courthouse knows Mr. Tanner, and respects him. He is the most kind hearted man I have ever met, and is a fantastic attorney.

One of the best in Texas
I came to Mr Tanner Back in 2008. I was charged with a felony theft case. I have never been in any other trouble prior till. Mr Tanner brought me into his friendly atmosphere and re assured me that his experience in such manners would benefit me greatly. I told Mr Tanner I would never do such a criminal offense such as that and he looked at me eye to eye and said Tobe I believe you. With that statement I knew this great attorney would go to court on my behalf and battle such a horrible charge. The prosecutor tried several times to get me to plea bargin. We turned it down. Mr Tanner was ready to go to trial. This was my first time in the criminal justice system. We trialed this case before a jury. Mr Tanner in his wisdom prevailed! I was found innocent in 2 hours. My record was espounged and cleared from my criminal history. This attorney has to be one of the best in Houston Tx. Thanks again for giving me my life back!!! Tobe Johnson client for life.
