I grew up in West Tennessee on a farm, graduated from a private junior college nearby, got my first real job in Dayton, Ohio, while attending Miami University (Ohio) and University of Dayton (Ohio), and during my second real job in Cookeville, Tennessee, graduated from Tennessee Tech University with B.S. (History and English) and an M.A. (History) degrees. My third real job was in Abilene, Texas, and from there went to University of Texas Law School and got my Juris Doctor (Law) in 1973. I returned to Abilene, Texas, and practiced law in a law firm for five years before becoming General Counsel for LaJet, Inc., with executive offices in Abilene and Houston, Texas, and a refinery on the West bank of the Mississippi in St. James Parish, Louisiana. I worked for LaJet, Inc. for almost seven years until the company ceased operations and then worked for one client for the next two and one-half years funding real estate transactions in the Fort Worth - Dallas, Texas metropolitan area. In 1986 I joined the predecessor to my current law firm as a partner and remain a partner in Whitaker Chalk Swindle & Schwartz, PLLC, Fort Worth, Texas. My wife and I have two adult children and two grandchildren, all of whom live in Texas.
