My Honest Review

To Whom It May Concern: I previously used Rick Mitchell’s attorney services and recently found myself reading reviews to see how others viewed their experiences. Having had first-hand experience, I can confidently say that the reviews are accurate — all of them. Rick is knowledgeable an...d well-known in the Tarrant County area. However, he is very much a part of the “good ol’ boy” system. I noticed one reviewer mentioned that he was seen laughing with opposing counsel, and I can confirm this to be true. Rick has a non-confrontational personality and tends to maintain friendly relationships with other attorneys, often prioritizing collegiality over aggressive advocacy. He is personable and kind, and as others have noted, he will be very nice to you throughout the process. However, if you are looking for someone to fight fiercely as if your life or children depend on it, he may not be the best fit. For straightforward, uncontested cases, he does just fine. In my opinion, if the opposing party paints you in a negative light, Rick may be more inclined to judge rather than defend your character vigorously. That said, I’m not writing this to bash him. Rick is genuinely a nice person and is certainly capable of handling cases effectively. Ultimately, I believe he prefers higher-end clientele and cases that don’t appear “messy” or require an assertive, combative approach. As long as you align with the type of client he prefers, he will likely get the job done well.

Horrible, do not hire!

Absolutely terrible, and he committed blatant malpractice! Mitchell did not at all take me seriously when I told him my jury trial victory in a child custody case doesn’t necessarily mean judge won’t strip away much of what the jury awarded me, which was equal rights across the board (joint managing... conservatorship). I begged Mitchell to not go on auto-pilot because the judge in my case (whom I had been dealing with for two years while Mitchell had dealt with her for less than a month!) had proved herself mega-corrupt and mega-sexist; does what she wants regardless of how many laws she has to blatantly violate in the process. Yet Mitchell kept acting as if things were a lock.. phrases like “No judge goes against a jury’s verdict beyond a little bit because they don’t want to risk being embarrassed in appellate court.” He just would not listen to me that the judge we have is as abnormal as they come! Thus Mitchell LITERALLY did no planning whatsoever for the post-jury trial judge’s “rendition” hearing, and didn’t even try to make up a plan after he quickly realized his auto-pilot NO PLAN “plan” (as if we had a normal judge) was 100% failing me! Mitchell literally did nothing as opposing counselor defamed the hell out of me amongst a ton of gross exaggerations while portraying her client (my sociopath ex) as an angel. Mitchell provided zero defense of me and launched zero offensive against my ex. How could he not bring up that my “too blunt” (but with no cussing or threats) messages to my ex were very understandable because she had for severalweeks threatened to steal ALL of my possession time if I don’t follow an “order” that literally doesn’t exist? As another reviewer mentioned, Mitchell is nauseatingly meek in the courtroom — allows opposing counsel to absolutely dominate him and trash Mitchell’s client literally just as much as they wish! Auto-pilot boy, total indifference Mitchell horrendously hurt me and my son emotionally and financially. He also conspired (i.e. blatant malpractice) with opposing counsel and the judge to ILLEGALLY change the jury charge to where jurors could choose to not designate my son’s primary residence when state law states the jury MUST (NEVER the judge do it) designate a primary anytime they first vote for joint managing conservatorship. Jury was disgusted with my ex shooting for sole custody and thus I have no doubt they would have voted for my home to be my son’s primary residence if Mitchell and gang hadn’t ILLEGALLY given jury option to not deem a primary! Not deeming a primary made judge think it would be “OK to just this one time” ILLEGALLY designate primary residence herself — gave my ex 25 days a month average custody time and make ALL our son’s medical and educational decisions, order me to pay a TON in child support and even pay a massive amount of legal fees! Mitchell had no apology for his abject failure, just had his assistant multiple times bombard me with 8-10 emails within a few mins demanding I send them more money! Sorry, $25K is more than enough to be the victim of a scumbag attorney’s total lack of effort, total indifference, and sabotage me with undeniable malpractice! Here’s the law Mitchell, opposing counsel, and judge conspired to violate in full to make me lose case (STEAL jury win from me!) and make my son be miserable for over a year now! 105.002(c)(1)(D) “A party is entitled to a verdict and THE COURT MAT NOT CONTRAVENE a jury verdict on the issue of the determination of WHICH joint managing conservator has the exclusive right to designate the primary residence of the child.” Mitchell should be in prison for committing malpractice that destroyed me emotionally and financially and destroyed my 11yr old son emotionally. But he is the typical attorney — just in it for the money and getting off on using and abusing people. NEVER any guilt or apology for any of his heinous apathy and malpractice!

Excellent family attorney

Rick is an excellent attorney. He listens well to client wishes, he's honest about what he thinks he can do to help your case, and he's a stellar litigator when it comes to being in the court room. I've hired Rick repeatedly to represent me and my children and I always know he'll do an incredible job... when it comes to representing our needs.

Fixed my custody

Cannt say enough great things about Rick. After two large firms messed up my custody Rick got me more time than standard. He can easily handle high conflict cases and is well respected by the courts and counselors. If you have a high conflict case with litigious opposing party, then hire Rick.

Shameful

Don't use Rick. I came to him about sexual abuse of my daughter after I got a temporary restraining order on my own, forensic interview for daughter, unable to determine with CPS which means they even believed abuse happened, just not the attorney Rick. I have been triggered since going into court wi...th Rick and him angrily questioning me right before hearing so that I was too afraid to speak, as if he was on the opposing counsel, judge asking him why he wouldn't present any evidence.. I could go on and on. It's extremely sad when a mother does all she can to protect her child to have a man sit and laugh over the phone about your situation. Uncaring individuals only wanting to take your money, charging 5k for trial, and so of course I was railroaded by Crooked Kim Cooks at trial w/o an attorney. People like this see $$, color, and that's it. I'm an honest Veteran, and have no reason to lie about daughter's abuse, especially after a previous permanent restraining order put in place against other perpetrator a year prior to this, but people act as if they have no idea about sexual abuse, and use the mother as a scapegoat because complete details may not be known for years with the abused. I have also taken a polygraph to clear my name against any coaching allegations, forensic interviewer saw no red flags of coaching, school counselors testified to the abuse, ...My story is on a few podcasts with other women who have been treated in despicable ways by Kim Cooks and these people. Check it out on Everyday Life of Bryan Woodard. Be careful who you elect on the bench as well, because these judges side with their buddy, buddy attorneys, and attorneys will often let you know if the judges like them as if this isn't your life, your children's lives, but some popularity contest. Shameful that people can't just do their very best at what they do, but get over on unsuspecting individuals and their families
