A native of northeast Iowa, Monty has been married for over 20 years to his wife Sonya, a vice principal within the Hurst-Euless-Bedford school district. They have two children, one pursuing a doctorate in microbiology at Texas A&M and another who after graduating recently from the University of North Texas began her career teaching middle school English. Monty is a real estate investor, an able-handed do-it-yourselfer, an active reader (with a keen interest in the U.S. colonial period), and an avid sports fan.
