A dedicated partner at Robinson & Smart, P.C., Gary Smart has devoted his career to criminal defense since 1991. Graduating from Texas Tech University and St. Mary’s School of Law laid the groundwork for his role as a prosecutor at the Dallas County District Attorney’s office in 1989, later transitioning to defense work. Gary’s remarkable skill earned him Board Certification in Criminal Law by the State Bar of Texas in 1995. With over 100 jury trials under his belt, including high-profile Capital Murder cases, and managing the resolution of upward of 10,000 cases, his legal acumen is unmatched. Beyond his courtroom prowess, Gary is committed to the broader legal community, actively participating in multiple legal associations and holding a Board Member position in the Tarrant County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, where he led as President in 2020. Licensed in federal courts, including the United States Supreme Court, he balances his work with family life and managing his cattle ranch. Gary’s tenacity in protecting clients’ rights and his dedication to legal excellence define his esteemed career.

Incompetent
Hired him to defend my son - he would have been better off with a public defender. Mr. Smart couldn't even pronounce my son's last name correctly and appeared to doze off twice during the jury trial. He was totally inept and unprofessional. My son spent two years in state prison and 10 years on proba...
I am not sure who this was from but I have a good idea. This case was tried in 2004. I am not sure why the mother waited 13 years to post a comment. I can assure you I did not sleep during the trial or even come close to dozing off. If anybody wants to go view the public record, they will see the client got a significantly lower sentence than the prosecutor had offered. The facts of the case made it a very difficult case to defend. The range of punishment was 2-20 years. I defended the case the best I could given the facts of the case. Anonymous, I would be more than happy to discuss the case further if you would like to contact my office
