Nightmare Experience

I would never on any day recommend this attorney. I hired him and quickly changed to a new attorney. I wish I had known of the disciplinary actions, I would have submitted my personal experience of him & his practices. He asked that i sign a blank retainer, confirming that i could trust him this was ...their usual procedure. It was my first time needing representation and I thought he's here to help me, so I signed it. He did not represent me when it was my day in court because he was representing another client before a different judge. My court/judge waited on him as I tried multiple times to get his attention and when he finally showed up, the judge was going to reset the hearing date. He interrupted the judge by saying, he could do his portion in 10 minutes or less. Needless to say, he filled in the contract with an amount double what he quoted me and he got paid 10K. Then he put my case into a motion that my new attorney had to work to get changed costing me even more money. He never returned any calls and when I went to his office to retrieve the paperwork I had given him, he put me off for days and then copied it over and over until I could hardly carry it. Remember, one, ten minute hearing before a judge. When my new attorney requested my information from him, known as professional courtesy, details of requests, hearings, etc. He was still being notified by the court of my upcoming court date because he was still the attorney of record, he waited until after that hearing to send the paperwork. Again my new attorney, had to go around things instead of just a straight shot. This man was paid for nothing, because there was no legal representation. A true case in point, he will reap what he has sown-no ethics whatsoever. He just took advantage of an already difficult situation.

I have absolutely no idea who this. It does not sound like an actual client. When someone posts a review anonymously it is very hard to respond because a person can post whatever they want whether it is true or not. I would ask whomever this to post their real name so I can address these unfounded allegations. That's the problem with these sites a person can post anything with no proof with no repercussions. I get most of my cases on thumbtack where I have over 95 reviews with a 4.7 out of 5 star rating. Michael Rubin

AVVO Warning Unfair

I hired Mr. Rubin for a high dollar property and custody case. I was conflicted at first because his reviews on Thumbtack and Yelp were almost all positive. Since this was my life we were talking about I did a lot of research before I decided to hire someone. I contacted AVVO to see why it warned th...at Mr. Rubin should be approached with extreme caution. There response was due to his history with the bar. I asked what issues did he have and they did not know. It was the mere fact that he had been disciplined at some point. AVVO also told me not to rely on their rating as the sole reason to hire any lawyer and that they do not consider client reviews in its rating. I also called the Bar to find out the specific issues Mr. Rubin had the bar and left with no concerns. I have learned that a lawyer can be disciplined for very trivial to very serious issues. Mr. Rubin's issues with the bar were trivial (in my opinion) as they dealt with timely sending of bills and the amount of time to refund a retainer. None of the complaints had anything to do with his ability as a lawyer. His issues with the bar were also at time when he was sick as he explained to me in person. Bottom line is that I am so lucky and happy that I hired Mr. Rubin. The client reviews about how hard he works, his tenacity in the court room etc, were all true. I am glad I did not allow some "rating" prevent me from hiring him. My ex husband's lawyer was from some big law firm and charged him exorbitant fees. Mr. Rubin got me custody of the kids plus more than 50% of the marital estate and alimony and his fees were less that what my ex was charged. Thank you Mr, Rubin for all that you did for me and my family.

AVVO has chosen to remove any so called warning about hiring me. It appears that they agree that my reviews are what client's should be relying upon when deciding to hire me. Michael

No concerns here!

Mr. Rubin explained in full his past issues with bar and I was 100% convinced that there is absolutely no reason to be cautious or concerned about hiring him. I learned how Avvo comes up with its rating and it does not consider client reviews. Michael did an amazing job for me. I am glad I did not... let avvos rating stop me from hiring him.

Michael Rubin is a ROCK STAR!!!!

He is SHARP! He is TOUGH! He is EXTREMELY INTELLIGENT. He is TITANIUM IN A COURT ROOM. He has an INCREDIBLE MEMORY. He GOT ME THE IMPOSSIBLE when I had no hope at the time. He kept me strong & positive as he fought HARD for me for 2 LONG years! He and was able to get me everything he said h...e would so that I could take care of my daughter with autism until she is fully independent. ~I was awarded Primary custody of our daughter. ~MAXIMUM Child support & medical insurance for her. ~MAXIMUM Spousal support which only the Judge can take it away.. This is such an unprecedented VICTORY for all autism parents who are fighting custody and deserve support to help care for them. Never in my 16 years of being in the Autism world have I heard of being awarded child support for life if necessary because it has never once happened till now! I researched online for months and never saw one case. He fought very hard for me so I could keep my daughter and we won! Michael Rubin WILL fight for you too..ALL the way! He kept me strong by easing my fears by responding to all my emails and answering my 1000+ questions. By the way...we won on 100% INTEGRITY unlike my EX who played dirty along with his incompetent lawyer (IMHO) who charged him TWICE as much...and lost. Karma. I am forever GRATEFUL to you Mr. Michael Rubin! You will always be my Rock Star!! :) Shelley

Fully Probated Suspension issued in TX, 2015

updated on 09/07/2016

Fully probated suspension means an attorney is technically suspended but may still practice law. The State monitors the lawyer's activities during the suspension to make sure that he or she does not repeat the behavior.

Michael’s comment:

“All the discipline is a result of having to shut down my practice. It is complicated shutting down an practice and mistakes were made. Prior to this-I have never been in trouble with the law or any other organization. Since starting to work again-I have limited my case load and if you see my reviews on Thumbtack you will see that my clients are very satisfied with my work. These incidents occurred in late 2012-early 2013. Nothing has occurred since then. Michael Rubin”

Public Reprimand issued in TX, 2015

updated on 09/07/2016

Public reprimand means an attorney did something wrong but may still practice law. The State gives the lawyer a public reprimand in hopes that he or she will not repeat the behavior. Details of the infraction are made part of the public record.

Michael’s comment:

“In December of 2012 I became very ill and had to shut down my practice. I did not work for 8 months. Mistakes were made in closing the practice. None of the discipline had anything to do with my competency as a lawyer. These events occurred in 2012 and early 2013 but the cases were not resolved until 2015. I would ask that you consider my client reviews here and on other sites. Please also call me to discuss any concerns you may have. Thanks Michael Rubin”
