Michael is a great lawyer with great results

I hired Michael after reading most of his reviews on Avvo and seeing how long he’s been in family law. When hiring a lawyer I wanted someone who has been in the industry for a long time, has experienced all types of cases and knows the law like the back of his/her hand... and thats Michael. When I... started the divorce process, my ex didn’t have a lawyer and wanted to divorce amicably. Michael and his team were willing to work with both of us while keeping my best interest (being that I hired him and he warned me things could go south quickly). Naively, I was being very loose with the divorce decisions; not taking half of the 401k, not doing standard visitation and not wanting child support but asking for support to pay for my kids private school. Michael and his team still explained to me everything I was legally entitled to but I made decisions based on thinking I was amicably divorcing. Well that was short lived. My ex got a lawyer without telling me and Michael notified me immediately. My Ex’s lawyer came back with an even worse schedule for my kids and denying paying for private school tuition. After months of not paying me child support, not agreeing to anything Michael sent or just coming back with dumb questions. Michael ended up getting me everything I asked for in the beginning, a child support amount higher than standard child support that pays for my kids private school tuition cost, back pay for the months of missed child support and the original schedule I proposed. Michael really fights for you. You will receive emails from him day and night and you will get a same day replied. He has a fiesty attitude and demolishes any other lawyer that is trying to treat his client unfair. Being that this was my first time going to court or hiring a lawyer and I don’t have family in town to advise me and go to appointments with me, I felt really safe with Michael because he really has yours and your kids best interest. He puts things in perspective, making you realize you should request everything you want but not everything is worth fighting for. BUT he will still fight for you if you want/need him to. I will recommend Michael to anyone I know going through a divorce or in need of family law representation

Be on the winning side....

Michael represented me in my divorce almost two years ago. Very little could be decided out of court so we ended up going to trial. I was dealing with all of the emotional aspects of the divorce and relied on Michael completely. I was very nervous for the trial because my ex-husband was also an ...attorney and he had that advantage over me. Being in a court room was quite comfortable for him and not for me. Michael calmed my nerves and gave me the confidence to answer truthfully and be well prepared. My ex was not very cooperative with providing all the documentation that was provided, didn’t show up for our first trial that was set, but that didn’t stop Michael. He was well prepared, pouring over countless emails and financial statements in the last minute. He got my everything I asked for: maximum child support, spousal support, custody, debt that was in both of our names was required for him to pay. So in all, I was absolutely pleased with the outcome. My absolutely favorite thing about Michael was his relentless approach during trial. When he got my ex-husband on the stand he asked him the hard questions and DID NOT BACK DOWN when my ex tried to use his own experience as a trial attorney. The judge even stepped in at one point and told my ex, that he might be use to being in a courtroom, but this was not HIS courtroom today, it was hers and he needed to answer the questions. Some refer to Michael as a shark, but I feel that term is a negative way to describe him, instead he gets the job done and he does it very well and will not back down. I wasn’t prepared for the fact that Eventhough the divorce is final and there is a decree, I would have to continue to fight for the things in the decree. But Michael has been there to answer questions for me. Unfortunately we moved back to Colorado or I would have taken my ex back to court with Michael. Thank you for a job well done.

Brilliant Intelligent and Capable Attorney

Mr. Rubin handled my divorce and child custody. He was able to negotiate both matters with me being able to keep my finances in place and receiving child support from my ex-wife. Then 4 years later he brilliantly fought to gain full custody of my sons and receive even higher child support on a mo...nthly basis . Mr. Rubin nullified the opposing attorney and got right to the heart of the matter in my case to achieve a big win and future settlement for my sons. I would highly recommend Michael Rubin as an attorney. He is extremely personable with a wonderful disposition. He cares about his clients. Joseph Paul Dodsonjp

Great lawyer , but....

Michael represented me 2X . Both times divorce proceedings from the same person. Pros: Michael kicks ass in court when prepared and full loaded with evidence. Motion hearing when he had no prep time, and took the case 2 days prior, he still completely destroyed opposing counsel. Motion hearing whe...n he took on 2 attorneys at once, both of whom kept speaking over him, he fired back with amazing responses. He won almost all inter-rim attorneys fees. He got me max child support, temp alimony, settlement, etc. (Though I know I could have gotten more if he actually tried). I was always nervous when walking in, but usually confident of Michael's talents once a hearing began. All in all in the courtroom he is phenomenal. Cons: Files too many frivolous motions. Failed to appear for vital hearing. We butted heads about the course my case should take. Doesn't always do what is in your nor your family's best interest if there's no attorneys fees that will benefit him. His paralegal... Lord have mercy, she's overworked, and needs an assistant or 2 , so expect errors (typos, or names placed in wrong area on orders) due to her ridiculous workload. His paralegal may not call you back if you owe fees, and a hearing is approaching. His paralegal didn't like me much, not because I was rude, nor disrespectful, but because she didn't think my case was worth the effort. I did alot of my own research, copied all my own evidence, came to court prepared with everything Michael needed with copies for us, opposing counsel, and the judge. I guess the pro in that was it saved me money in having his paralegal do it, which probably she wouldn't have done anyway. The case lasted way too damn long, and now though it's over I feel as though I gained nothing from it. Many of the same issues I plead for Michael to address, that dealt with serious family and legal issues have resurfaced and now must be addressed because it wasn't addressed. Final thoughts: If you have the money to retain Michael, and maintain his fees then go ahead. Remember, Michael runs a business. He's not your counselor, not your friend, he is your attorney. Some attorneys sell you the "I'm here to support you" bullshit, then turn around and treat you worse than your ex. Then you end up feeling like you're in another bad relationship, and desperately seeking an out without the collateral damage. At times, this is how I felt with Michael. We just always butted heads. However, I'm glad I met Michael. I thought I would hate him for what he put me through but at the end of the day as much of a pain in the ass I thought he was, he did what I needed of him to do, and that was screw my ex, and make him pay for the misery and torment I endured during the course of our marriage. I didn't get everything I believe I deserve from my ex spouse, but now that I hear horror stories from my colleagues and the fact they didn't hold their exes financially accountable for the care of their children. I thank God Michael was there. He still gets on my freaking nerves. I know Michael reads this. Don't you dare respond, just be glad I finally wrote the review you'd been asking for.

Michael Rubin is AWESOME!

I contacted Mr. Rubin when I realized I'd made a mistake and hired a totally incompetent attorney (or perhaps one who was actually having drinks with the opposing counsel-do your research) and I was about to lose my children and my whole life (I was a stay-at-home mom) to my soon-to-be ex because he ...entered the courtroom with a campaign of awful lies about me. My ex initially accused me of being a drug addict, an alcoholic, a lunatic, and an abuser, all in hopes of taking the children away to get back at me for filing for divorce. At our first hearing (before I hired Michael), the judge totally believed everything my ex said and I wasn't even allowed to go back to my own home that very night--despite the fact that everything was a lie! I went through hell for 15 months fighting the good fight against my ex (who is an attorney) and his attorney (who believed my ex...at first)--drug tests, social study, substance abuse evaluation, you name it. I had none of the problems, so all of his lies were proven to be just that. OK--back to Michael-- So, after the first hearing, I found Michael and he said he could help. Two weeks after the first court date, we went back to court with the drug test results (and other results) and Michael got me my kids, my house, child support, and my ex kicked out. We still had almost a year ahead of us because my ex wouldn't give up, but every time we went to court, Michael was there (on time) and was a rock star. Although I went into some court dates feeling unprepared, he always made me feel reassured as soon as we got there and then killed it in front of the judge. After I hired him, literally everything went my way and I got more than I ever expected in the end. I would recommend him to anyone fighting to win fairly in a bitter divorce battle. He called my ex out for all of his lies in front of the judge and, without compromising anyone's integrity, made it perfectly clear how things should be. I am so glad I found him. Thank you Michael.

Michael’s comment:

“All the discipline is a result of having to shut down my practice. It is complicated shutting down an practice and mistakes were made. Prior to this-I have never been in trouble with the law or any other organization. Since starting to work again-I have limited my case load and if you see my reviews on Thumbtack you will see that my clients are very satisfied with my work. These incidents occurred in late 2012-early 2013. Nothing has occurred since then. Michael Rubin”

Public Reprimand issued in TX, 2015

updated on 09/07/2016

Public reprimand means an attorney did something wrong but may still practice law. The State gives the lawyer a public reprimand in hopes that he or she will not repeat the behavior. Details of the infraction are made part of the public record.

Michael’s comment:

“In December of 2012 I became very ill and had to shut down my practice. I did not work for 8 months. Mistakes were made in closing the practice. None of the discipline had anything to do with my competency as a lawyer. These events occurred in 2012 and early 2013 but the cases were not resolved until 2015. I would ask that you consider my client reviews here and on other sites. Please also call me to discuss any concerns you may have. Thanks Michael Rubin”
