Great lawyer , but....

Michael represented me 2X . Both times divorce proceedings from the same person. Pros: Michael kicks ass in court when prepared and full loaded with evidence. Motion hearing when he had no prep time, and took the case 2 days prior, he still completely destroyed opposing counsel. Motion hearing whe...n he took on 2 attorneys at once, both of whom kept speaking over him, he fired back with amazing responses. He won almost all inter-rim attorneys fees. He got me max child support, temp alimony, settlement, etc. (Though I know I could have gotten more if he actually tried). I was always nervous when walking in, but usually confident of Michael's talents once a hearing began. All in all in the courtroom he is phenomenal. Cons: Files too many frivolous motions. Failed to appear for vital hearing. We butted heads about the course my case should take. Doesn't always do what is in your nor your family's best interest if there's no attorneys fees that will benefit him. His paralegal... Lord have mercy, she's overworked, and needs an assistant or 2 , so expect errors (typos, or names placed in wrong area on orders) due to her ridiculous workload. His paralegal may not call you back if you owe fees, and a hearing is approaching. His paralegal didn't like me much, not because I was rude, nor disrespectful, but because she didn't think my case was worth the effort. I did alot of my own research, copied all my own evidence, came to court prepared with everything Michael needed with copies for us, opposing counsel, and the judge. I guess the pro in that was it saved me money in having his paralegal do it, which probably she wouldn't have done anyway. The case lasted way too damn long, and now though it's over I feel as though I gained nothing from it. Many of the same issues I plead for Michael to address, that dealt with serious family and legal issues have resurfaced and now must be addressed because it wasn't addressed. Final thoughts: If you have the money to retain Michael, and maintain his fees then go ahead. Remember, Michael runs a business. He's not your counselor, not your friend, he is your attorney. Some attorneys sell you the "I'm here to support you" bullshit, then turn around and treat you worse than your ex. Then you end up feeling like you're in another bad relationship, and desperately seeking an out without the collateral damage. At times, this is how I felt with Michael. We just always butted heads. However, I'm glad I met Michael. I thought I would hate him for what he put me through but at the end of the day as much of a pain in the ass I thought he was, he did what I needed of him to do, and that was screw my ex, and make him pay for the misery and torment I endured during the course of our marriage. I didn't get everything I believe I deserve from my ex spouse, but now that I hear horror stories from my colleagues and the fact they didn't hold their exes financially accountable for the care of their children. I thank God Michael was there. He still gets on my freaking nerves. I know Michael reads this. Don't you dare respond, just be glad I finally wrote the review you'd been asking for.

Professional misconduct

This lawyer was disciplined by a state licensing authority in 2024.

Disability Suspension issued in TX, 2024

updated on 06/13/2024

Disability Suspension means the attorney has lost his or her license to practice law as a result of a mental or physical disability.

Fully Probated Suspension issued in TX, 2015

updated on 09/07/2016

Fully probated suspension means an attorney is technically suspended but may still practice law. The State monitors the lawyer's activities during the suspension to make sure that he or she does not repeat the behavior.

Michael’s comment:

“All the discipline is a result of having to shut down my practice. It is complicated shutting down an practice and mistakes were made. Prior to this-I have never been in trouble with the law or any other organization. Since starting to work again-I have limited my case load and if you see my reviews on Thumbtack you will see that my clients are very satisfied with my work. These incidents occurred in late 2012-early 2013. Nothing has occurred since then. Michael Rubin”

Public Reprimand issued in TX, 2015

updated on 09/07/2016

Public reprimand means an attorney did something wrong but may still practice law. The State gives the lawyer a public reprimand in hopes that he or she will not repeat the behavior. Details of the infraction are made part of the public record.

Michael’s comment:

“In December of 2012 I became very ill and had to shut down my practice. I did not work for 8 months. Mistakes were made in closing the practice. None of the discipline had anything to do with my competency as a lawyer. These events occurred in 2012 and early 2013 but the cases were not resolved until 2015. I would ask that you consider my client reviews here and on other sites. Please also call me to discuss any concerns you may have. Thanks Michael Rubin”
