"My hometown is so small; it doesn't even have a stoplight." And it is in Wright City, Oklahoma, population 850, where Amy Carter started her pursuit of the law. "Living in a small town, there is little reason to push outside of what you know," but Amy did, graduating valedictorian, class president, homecoming queen and basketball guard from her high school. "My high school English teacher was a major inspiration for me. She wanted to be a lawyer and she pushed her students to achieve."
After high school, Amy attended college and graduated with a bachelor's degree in business management and become a mom all before attending the University Of Texas School Of Law. "You could fit my entire home town inside the campus," Amy remembers with amazement. "UT Law was so big to me, but I was motivated to succeed. Having a child really helped me because I became extremely skilled at time management. You have to when you have someone else depending on you and it honestly gave me an advantage in law school and in life because I have unparalleled time management skills."
Time management along with strong familial bonds are principles Amy has brought with her in the practice of law. "When you get to trial, it becomes personal because you have someone depending on you. That and my kids are the things that motivate me. We make sure our clients feel like family." A trained dancer, Amy says in trial, she lets the performer come out, connecting with they jury. "I want them to feel and see what I am feeling and seeing. I want a jury to know that I am representing a family member in my mind."
Amy has been with Williams Kherkher Hart Boundas Law Firm, LLP since 2005 after a couple of stops at firms in Dallas. She is licensed in California, Pennsylvania and Texas and because of her position has traveled all over the world, but that does not stop her and the kids from going home to Wright City for a visit now and again. "Everyone knows everyone and they are proud. I went back not to long ago and some one asked if I had passed the California Bar. My mother tells everyone, everything about me."
