With a career stretching back over 25 years, there’s very little in the area of Family Law David Housel doesn’t have hands-on experience with. Those who work with David know him as accessible and available to his clients, whether that’s on a Tuesday evening or a Saturday morning. He’s a firm believer that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and that, should a problem arise, solving it as soon as possible benefits everyone involved.
David brings a strong work ethic and tenacious personality to the practice of law and is determined to get things done. As a child of divorce, Family Law is an area he’s deeply passionate about. He has vivid memories of interacting with lawyers and judges as a child and remembers the effect that had on him and his young brothers. Those experiences inform his work today. He wants to make sure that children are protected, their feelings are taken into account, and that their situation brings as little stress as possible into their lives.
When working with clients, planning for the future is at the forefront of David’s mind. For the stay-at-home parent, he wants to make sure they have an income source a year down the road. He wants the parents that just finalized an acrimonious divorce to remember their relationship will stretch years into the future and that they’ll need to find civil ways to interact with one another. David works hard to make these things a reality.
David is Board Certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Since 2021, he has been recognized by Thompson Reuters as a Texas Super Lawyer, an honor which only 5% of attorneys in the state receive each year. He has also been named among the Best Lawyers in America in the area of Family Law. David holds a rating of AV-Preeminent from Martindale-Hubbell, a rating given only to attorneys of the highest ethical standards and legal skill.
David received his law degree from the University of Houston Law Center. He enjoys spending time with his wife and children and regularly playing competitive volleyball.

An attorney who goes above and beyond.
David Housel was actually my second attorney. My first attorney just wasn’t fighting for me the way I needed. By coincidence and luck, I came across David through two separate referrals—and it turned out to be one of the best decisions of my life. He stepped in during the middle of a grueling 2.5-...

Only interested in adding money in his pocket per his client
Mr. Housel represented my ex-husband in our divorce processing. He was let go prior to the last hearing this year 2024. Come to find out my ex-husband disclosed to the court and Judge that Mr. Housel purposely did not follow his instructions and did not communicate why we were in court. According to ...

Knows his stuff
David represented me in a divorce case that involved a child. I am a very detailed person and I like to be educated and informed of all of my options before moving forward. I had a consultation with David once and he was very upfront about how getting what I wanted with my child was highly unlikely g...

Mr. Housel represented my ex-husband in our divorce case. And yes, I recommend him!
David represented my ex-husband in our divorce case and I represented myself. It was a matter of difference in ability to pay for legal representation. I honestly kept expecting something bad to happen in the proceedings; some rug that would be pulled out from under me. David clearly had my husband...

David Housel is the man
I recently went through divorce and had David recommended to me by an attorney with whom I trust implicitly. The recommending attorney is not easily impressed with anything, and she had no reservations about sending me his way, saying “He’s about the only family law guy I would recommend.” High prais...
"Mr. Housel and I worked together to help a couple of parents resolve their differences and put a good parenting plan in place. David advocated strongly for his client, but never let his own ego cause the case to blow up. He knew what was worth arguing about and what wasn't, and that is what distinguishes good attorneys from the rest. I look forward to working with David on other cases in the future."
