Jim has extensive experience in the areaof family law, having tried hundreds of divorce, custody andcontested probate cases, as well as being appointed by the Courts inDenton and Dallas counties to represent the interests of children-both asan attorney ad litem and amicus attorney. Jim's philosophy in familylaw matters is simple-to try and reach an amicable resolution withminimal disruption to the family, but understanding that this cannotalways be accomplished without court intervention. After dealing withthe final illnesses of his parents, Jim became acutely aware of theproblems facing older adults and recognized the need to provide legalservices to the elderly.

Jim was born in Hanford, CaliforniaAugust 22, 1960. Raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Jim received his Bachelorof Science degree in Telecommunications from Oral Roberts University, and spent over 12 years in the radio broadcasting industry, both on-airand in station management. Jim became interested in the real estateprofession, and sold residential and commercial properties inNortheastern Oklahoma in the mid to late 1980's. It was during thistime that Jim decided to attend law school, which he began in 1989while maintaining full-time employment to support his family. Jimreceived his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Tulsa Collegeof Law in December, 1992, and was a visiting scholar at the SouthernMethodist University Law School in 1990-1991. Jim has been admitted tothe practice of law in Texas (1993), and the District of Columbia(1994). He is also admitted to practice in the Federal District Courtof the Northern District of Texas, and the District of Columbia Courtof Appeals. Jim has been admitted Pro hac vice and conducted trials inOklahoma on several occasions. He is also a member of the State Bar ofTexas and the District of Columbia Bar.  Jim served as President of the Denton County Bar Association in 2006-2007, and on the Board of Directors of the Denton County Bar Association from 2001-2008.

I couldn't have been in better hands.
Faced with a complicated divorce involving child custody issues, I met with Jim Ashmore and knew, after that first consultation, that I had found the right attorney. I was completely frantic, and had no idea what to expect. Mr. Ashmore led me though the process step by step. His knowledge, professionalism, and compassion were priceless to me. Though the past 8 years, when custody issues arose, Mr. Ashmore handled them for me, and I always knew that he had my best interest, as well as that of my children in mind at each corner. Mr. Ashmore has always kept me well informed, and the level of trust I have in him and his team has always made it possible to move forward confidently and with a positive attitude.

7 years, same lawyer
In 2003, a surprise divorce filing with false accusation prompted me to seek counsel. Not a “yellow page” event, I networked my way to Jim Ashmore. Over the next 5 months, he helped me separate legal issue from drama, listed options, advised, filed, and navigated through the problem. I finally defaulted to a “soft” response. Jim cautioned me against this but respected my opinion and filed accordingly. Over the next seven years, several additional law suits were filed against me. I was at risk and (more importantly) my kids were at risk. Jim’s broad experience and penchant for detail lead to positive outcome throughout the entire dilemma. He always went over options, created a sound plan, and was well prepared for hearings and trials. Jim stays calm and flexible in court, adjusting when required. His demeanor and approach earns respect of judges, opposing attorneys, and witnesses. My observations are not based on whim. Exhausting legal work behind, my family and I are on the mend. This journey took me through 3 courts in 2 counties with (over time) 5 opposing attorneys. I simply continued to show up with the same attorney, Jim Ashmore.

Service good during divorce, but when it was over...
I used Mr. Ashmore during a difficult divorce with child custody issues. Everything was great at first, however, when I encountered issues with my ex toward the end of the finalization, I could not get any help or return phone calls from the firm. I just needed some simple answers and I finally just quit calling and gave up. I am now seeking a new attorney for modificiation of child custody, which is going to cost me more money. Unfortunately, knowing what I do now, I would not recommend this firm.
