TRUSTWORTHY & FIGHTS FOR YOUR RIGHTS!

George was very dedicated to my needs and did not hesitate to tell me if my needs were not feasible according to the law. He is kind and very knowledgeable about family law. He was able to complete my divorce proceedings in 4 months as opposed to long drawn out divorce battles. Also, it never hurt t...o parade a good looking lawyer around your ex.

Severe Lack of Communication – Attended Key Hearing Without Notice and No Refund Explanation – Do Not Recommend

George Crumley went to a hearing in my case without notifying me and lost it. I only received an email from him at 5:30 p.m. saying my case had been heard and the motion for new trial was denied, putting me back into the prolonged divorce battle I've been dealing with—an ex who won't let me rest. I... paid George his retainer fee, but he didn't enter an appearance or announce representation for about one month, even though I repeatedly asked him to do so. Then he asked me to agree to restrictive terms proposed by my ex-husband (being "caged" with limitations), which I said were not okay. The court later set a hearing for the motion for new trial. He did not tell me about it, he appeared anyway, and I have no idea what he argued or how/why he lost. The docket initially listed me as pro se for the hearing; it was only updated the next day to show his appearance. I asked him to drop out of the case and refund me. It's outrageous how he wasn't upfront or fair—instead, he accumulated extra charges and ended up saying I owed him $1,500+ more. When I said I would take up the matter and request a forensic review of the billing, he emailed that he was "letting the balance go." No—you owe me a refund. You did nothing substantial, scheduled/attended a hearing without letting me know, and I still don't understand how the retainer got exhausted with no itemized explanation. Please don't believe the many glowing reviews. I had a terrible experience with him, and I went to him because chatgpt AI told me he was a good lawyer. LOL—big mistake

I always wish clients the best even when they are upset. My work with this client was cut short due to her displeasure with the court's ruling. She obtained a default judgment from a visiting judge against her husband, later overturned by that same judge. She and her husband appeared later for a very short hearing in which the same visiting judge reinstated the original ruling. Neither side had an attorney. Unfortunately, at that hearing no evidence was offered or admitted into the court's record other than some accusations and statements of the parties. Her husband then hired counsel who challenged it and prepared for appeal, so she hired me. I explained in great detail that Texas law won’t allow a judgment to stand when there was no evidence offered that would support the order, and that her judgment had little chance of holding up; and, there was a high likelihood that it would be overturned, and if not, her husband planned to appeal. So either way there was going to be a long battle and cost ahead. All of this was explained in great detail. I suggested we try to save fees and negotiate a settlement to avoid starting over or costly appeal. She was unwilling to make concessions in negotiations and asked for us to try to defeat the motion for new trial. I strategically waited until the day of the hearing to file my response to the motion because I did not want the other side to be prepared for our arguments. This time the hearing was before the sitting judge, NOT the visiting judge, and the sitting judge saw things very differently and overturned the judgment since it had no supporting evidence--just exactly as I had warned the client. I put a lot of work into her case in a short time to negotiate and prepare a brief and argue in court, and provided a very detailed billing statement. Divorce is always high in emotion and often anger, and the attorney catches the blame. But I do wish her the best going forward and I hope she can get the resolution she seeks.

Beware of sales pitch

I had a $300 consultation with this attorney in which he made a sales pitch of how good prospects were in my case. He showed clarity and empathy in his answers. But as soon as he got my retainer money, his tone changed to disrespect. He said he "didn't have enough time to review my decree during the ...consultation" and now has decided that the case does not hold any water and I should just give my ex- what he is asking for. It was a paid consultation, so I should have received sound legal advice not a hurried sales pitch. I informed him my ex- had already filed a case in court. He was unaware and thus not on top of my case. Showed disrespect in his tone when answering my questions and lack of interest in my case. When I emailed him some questions he did not respond for a month. When I asked him for an invoice, went back and answered my one month old email and added that charge to invoice and sent me the invoice. I explained him all above reasons for firing him and he turns the blame on me saying that I was upset because my ex- got what he wanted. Typical narcissist play of turning blame on the victim. Total waste of $2,650.

This person never hired me to pursue her case!! Sadly, when a client doesn't get the answers they want, the often resort to criticism of the messenger. On one hand she says I showed "clarity and empathy," and then she says it was a "hurried sales pitch." It can't be both. Most notably, she never actually hired me to file anything or move her case forward--she only wanted me available to ask me questions. An initial consultation does not involve a lengthy review of the entire history and pleadings in a case--it's a consultation. That is why people hire us; the consultation is for the purpose of an overview, and giving the client an opportunity to decide if the lawyer is a good fit. However, once the lawyer spends some hours in review of a matter, things are learned which shape their opinions. Sheetal got very upset when her ex-husband was able to sell a property without her agreement--even though he was the sole owner of the property, and he had been ordered to sell or refinance it in their divorce decree, and now she somehow blames me, though we had absolutely no way whatsoever to stop him from selling HIS OWN property, nor did she ever authorize me to take any action to even try. She never authorized me to move forward, though we discussed it many times over the course of a few months when I repeatedly asked if she was ready to proceed. Her statement is correct that she continually asked questions, and we answered them all--she just could not commit to going forward; so I waited. We had weeks and months of emails and communications and I repeatedly asked her if she was ready to file her case. She never answered; she just wanted more answers to mostly the same questions, and wanted more consultation. She repeatedly asked if she could file illegal liens and take action that is not allowed under the law. I told her we cannot do that. So I was never able to go forward in her case, and she ultimately received a refund of the retainer money we didn’t use. She was given a great deal of legal advice in this case, including her many questions answered; I reviewed all of her case history; I dealt with her husband's lawyer; I reviewed documents he prepared and advised her about her ex's attempt to sell the house. She asked me numerous times the same questions. I advised her each time and answered all of her questions. She simply didn't like the answers, and would never give me instructions to go forward. I told her “I am sorry you are upset, but we have been here the whole time to answer your questions and file for modification whenever you were ready; we also stood ready to defend his motion for clarification/modification as soon as you were served, though you never were.” (he filed a case asking the court for clarification, but he never actually served her to begin the case) I wish her the best of luck, and I hope she can find some way to go forward.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
