After completing initial consultations with five other attorneys, I decided to retain Jodie McGill as my attorney. When my partner and I decided it was time for us to divorce, we worried a lot about what the process would look like. Jodie took on my divorce case about seven years ago. In my case I was closed out of all the finances from the beginning. I hired Jodie to help me, and she had to work hard for everything, each step of the way, because the other lawyer and my ex husband took the stance that they wouldn't give up an...ything At the time she didn't know if taking it to court or settling out of court was best. But, I believe that through out the ordeal, she was a steady and compassionate force. She was good about returning phone calls and emails promptly, answering my questions clearly when I asked . Also I was always treated professionally and respectfully. It is never inexpensive to hire a lawyer, but she seemed to be careful not to run up the bill in excess.

Divorces can typically bring out the worst in people, which is something that we wanted to avoid, as we knew it wouldn’t only hurt us but also our children. We chose to do a collaborative divorce with the help of our amazing lawyers and counselors , this made this process so smooth and helped us gain... a better understanding how to handle divorce and co parent in a positive way. We want to provide a healthy, consistent parental relationship for our children to learn from, and going the route of a collaborative divorce guided us towards meeting that goal.  It is not always easy and requires a great deal of honesty at a time when that might be difficult to provide, but the process worked for us.
