Why do I want to fight for the underdog? While I was growing up I began to notice people would open up to me and tell me their stories. It's kind of a gift I have learned. Maybe it was because I had gone through some of the same challenges. I feel I have to honor that trust. I just know that from the start, I was on the side of the underdog. Injustice is upsetting to me. People have called me "stubborn" and "determined". As a lawyer I have usually been able to help those people who came to me and shared their stories. And that is what I have been doing for 40 years - helping people in Kansas who have been harmed.
