About Richard
Biography
For more than 30 years, Rick Morefield has handled lawsuits ranging from multi-million dollar business disputes to relatively simple auto accident cases. He has helped individuals and businesses obtain justice in cases involving wrongful death, traumatic brain injury, breach of contract, fraud, breach of partnership agreement, defective products, motorcycle wrecks, auto wrecks, trucking wrecks, and premises liability (injuries on dangerous or poorly maintained property). His focus is on helping those who have been most seriously harmed by the wrongdoing of others.
Rick began his career at a large Kansas City area law firm and primarily represented the interests of large corporations and insurance companies in business litigation, insurance litigation and tort defense. He soon realized that his heart was with those who have been seriously injured. In 1993, he was one of the founders of a firm that represented primarily individuals and small businesses. In 2014, he started the law firm of Morefield Speicher Bachman, LC along with Andrew Speicher and Stan Bachman. Morefield Speicher Bachman, LC focuses on helping individuals and business get justice when they have been wronged by the carelessness, negligence, or bad conduct of others.
What makes Morefield Speicher Bachman, LC unique is that the firm not only provides high-quality legal representation to individuals and businesses, but it also provides pro bono legal services to those who cannot afford an attorney. The firm is committed to providing assistance through legal aid services and also provides free legal assistance in the areas of freedom of speech and religion.
Because the pursuit of justice is so important to him, Rick also gives back through involvement with the American Bar Association Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section (TIPS) where he is a past Chair of the 2000 member Litigation and Trial Practice Committee and serves as an editor of The Brief, the TIPS quarterly law magazine. He has also served as an instructor at the American Bar Association / American Board of Trial Advocates Trial Academy where he had the privilege of teaching trial skills to less experienced lawyers. Rick is a frequent instructor at continuing legal education seminars for other lawyers. He served for many years on the elder board of his local church, plays guitar in the worship band, and frequently teaches adult education classes.
Rick has received numerous recognitions from legal organizations. He has been recognized as a Missouri and Kansas SuperLawyer every year since 2005. He was selected by his peers for inclusion in the 2022 Edition of Best Lawyers in America for his work in personal injury has received the Top 10 Attorney Award (Kansas) from the National Academy of Personal injury Attorneys and he is listed as one of the Top 100 Trial Lawyers (Kansas) by the National Trial Lawyers, and was selected by America's Top 100 High Stakes Litigators.
In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, playing guitar, fly-fishing, and trying to master Kansas City-style barbecue on his backyard smoker.
