Aaron has always been called to serve others and understands that the legal profession is ultimately about serving people. To that end, Aaron works to protect people, especially those who are marginalized. Aaron thus advocates for justice on behalf of his clients who have been injured by another’s negligence or taken advantage of by unscrupulous or shady business and insurance practices. Aaron is passionate about helping injured people, in part because he lost his 21-year-old cousin in a 2002 car crash due to another’s negligence.
Aaron’s desire to help people obtain justice led him to create House Law. And Aaron’s unique background in both complex litigation and complex transactions gives him a distinct perspective in handling the problems faced by his clients. Aaron’s understanding of transactions and negotiations is invaluable to those in the midst of litigation as he navigates the court system and obtains compensation on behalf of his clients.
Because the lawyer-client relationship requires a foundation of trust, Aaron understands the need for a law firm where people feel comfortable discussing deeply personal matters. Aaron thus helps his clients obtain justice when they have been wrongfully injured by another’s negligence or fraudulent business practices.
Aaron is fiercely loyal and will fight for what is right, even when what is right is not popular. He is compassionate and kind, and Aaron’s background has prepared him well to advocate for you. Aaron received his bachelor of arts in chemistry in 2001 (with departmental honors) and his J.D., magna cum laude (top 8% of his class), in 2005, both from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Aaron served as Note and Comment Editor of the UMKC Law Review while in law school. During law school, Aaron clerked for several years for a well-known injury firm in Kansas City that focused on mass torts and pharmaceutical and medical device litigation, as well as motor vehicle crashes. After law school, Aaron clerked for the Honorable Laura Denvir Stith of the Supreme Court of Missouri, where he continued honing his research and writing skills.
Following his clerkship, Aaron gained substantial experience with two of Kansas City’s largest law firms. In 2006, Aaron began practicing with Shughart Thomson & Kilroy, P.C. (now Polsinelli PC), where he focused on complex, high-stakes commercial litigation, represented plaintiff consumers in nationwide class actions (including extensive work on a class action lawsuit against General Motors regarding factory-filled Dex-Cool Coolant, in securities fraud litigation, and in a lawsuit against Pratt & Whitney, an international aerospace manufacturer), and drafted numerous trial and appellate briefs, including briefs filed in the Supreme Court of the United States and the United States Courts of Appeals for the 7th, 8th, and 10th Circuits. He also argued dispositive motions in Missouri’s circuit courts and before the Missouri Court of Appeals. Aaron is a regular speaker at CLE events and for nonprofit organizations, and his law review article Obergefell’s Impact on Wrongful Death in Missouri and Kansas was published in 2016 at 84 UMKC L. Rev. 733 (2016).
In 2007, Aaron moved to Husch Blackwell LLP where he focused on complex, multi-million dollar business transactions involving commercial finance and continued to assist the appellate practice group with appellate briefs. In 2010, Aaron began teaching legal research and writing at his alma mater and served as Assistant Clinical Professor of Law through 2014. While a professor, Aaron taught students to draft documents that would be used in preparation for trial and on arguing before both appellate and trial courts. Aaron also presented at multiple legal writing conferences across the United States on topics such as the use of public policy to strengthen legal writing and analysis in appellate briefs.
Aaron founded House Law LLC in 2012. Aaron is licensed in Missouri and Kansas and is authorized to practice before the United States Courts of Appeals for the 8th and 10th Circuits, and the United States District Courts for the Western District of Missouri and the District of Kansas.
Aaron spends much time serving the community and has actively served people through the following organizations: the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection (2004-present); KC LEGAL (Kansas City LEsbian, Gay, and Allied Lawyers) (Co-Founder and Vice President, 2007-2010; Board of Directors, 2007-2010 and 2014-present); Della Lamb Community Services and Della Lamb Elementary Charter School (Board of Directors, 2007-2010 and Chair, Marketing Committee); Aaron was also selected as a member of The Missouri Bar’s 2007-2008 Leadership Academy, served on the Young Lawyers Section Board of Directors of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association (KCMBA) from 2008-2010, and as Vice-Chair of the KCMBA Tort Law Committee from 2015-present, and is a member of Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys (MATA), Missouri’s preeminent plaintiffs’ bar association.
In 2015 and 2016, Aaron was named a Rising Star in Missouri and Kansas by Super Lawyers, a rating service of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high-degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. He was also named Best of the Bar in 2015 and 2016 by The Kansas City Business Journal.
On a whimsical note, Aaron loves all things Harry Potter. A highlight in Aaron’s life involved meeting J.K. Rowling in New York City during a book signing tour (although Aaron is regrettably a muggle, he was sorted into Gryffindor House on ). Aaron loves traveling with his partner and spending time with their dog, Caleb. He also enjoys playing horn and piano.
