John George Steckel

i was a client of John's for over a year and a half, he got lots of money from me and never produced any results. He came unprepared for hearings and was always late, made the judge mad many many times, and was unresponsive when called. I left many many messages and hardly ever returned my calls, ... He lost me lots of money and time. please search for another person to handle your cases. If i knew what i know now about him, i would have never hired him. This one is not worth any of your time and certainly not worth the money he wants. RUN RUN AWAY FAST

I met with John in August 2016 to handle my divorce case. He seemed to be speaking the same language as me and assured me of my equitable rights. I paid him $2000 retainer that day to start the divorce filing. It was three weeks later the papers had not been served or filed to the court. After severa...l attempts to contact him, the 2nd week I was informed he was in Spain. Third week after our meeting filing of divorce went through. Fast forward September, October- NO communication or an understanding of trial dates or hearings. I find out from my now ex husbands attorney that mr. Steckel has been suspended. I coordinate a meeting in his office, this is early November. Meeting with John was disheartening, he was unorganized and in a state of confusion. He appeared to be latargic and on the nod. He asked me where I work three times. I set the expectations about communication and informed him I was aware of his suspension....I told him that attorneys have a responsibility to their clients and he hasn't lived up to that responsibility. He shared with me that some girls in his office had stolen money from him....not sure what that was about?? He assured me he would do better and handle my case. I was sick to my stomach as I was driving home about his lack of professionalism, so I made the decision to hire another attorney and pay more in retainer fees. The new attorney sent Mr. Steckel a letter dismissing him from my case and requesting unused monies from retainer, with itemized charges. After several attempts to contact, we have not heard from John and I still do not have my money, it is now February 2017.

Attorney Steckel charged me an upfront fee to take my case. He repeatedly communicated with me that my issue was almost resolved and I was to "be patient". I even met him at the court house once and he supposedly talked to a judge on my behalf - except I saw and spoke to no one. I paid additional ...fees for him to file paperwork that he never filed. Then, he stopped replying or communicating with me at all. In the end, I still have the problem I started with - and he has my money. He did nothing; continues to ignore my repeated requests for, at the least, an explanation.
