If you or someone you love ever find yourselves in a serious situation, falsely accused, needing the best lawyer ASAP, you need to make Michael D. Cheronis your first call. Not only is he a former ASA for Cook County with the utmost integrity, respect from his peers and colleagues, and the reputation... as an expert in defense; but he also has both public and private experience and is well known/respected for “getting results.” My son was arrested and put in jail for an alleged offense that wasn’t prosecutable and was facing 8mos or more in Cook Co. jail if a public defender would have been used. Meanwhile, he was being set up for a felony and extension of Violation of Order of Protection for an alleged incident that occurred 6 mos prior… initiated by his former girlfriend. My son was crushed, very scared, hopeless…we as parents were distraught. We called M. Cheronis on a Sat and within minutes he called us back. We retained him “on the spot.” Then my husband and I briefed him on the emotional, unbelievable tumultuous timeline of events, leading up to this. He asked if I could write and send him a timeline which I did (labor of love). He took it from there. What really impressed me is that when I asked him point blank, if he could really help my son, i.e. “fix this” he stated, “Yes I can” with conviction. Also impressive was his commitment to his client and us (his parents), his drive to get this done and save our son, his patience and listening skills, plus empathy. He gets it. Within 2 days he asked for a hearing and defended my son with multiple States Attorneys stating that “he wasn’t a felon, didn’t have a felony.” He was released on “conditional release” as he wasn’t a threat, pending an evidentiary hearing to show the facts of the case and was prepared to take it to trial. The day just prior to the hearing date, a letter was received by his former girlfriend’s attorney for a Motion requesting an extended VOOP due to a felony...another calculated move. Again, my son was distraught, very scared. On the hearing date Cheronis found out that the case, had indeed, been moved to felony court. He was aggressive and determined to end this, talk to ASA etc. He went to ASA who agreed that this was “not right,” but that ASA couldn’t rule on this or stop it; and he’d have to talk to the Director for SA office. He called us and told us the entire situation, i.e. what he’d said and that he had an lengthy email with evidence sent to the Director and was awaiting a return call to discuss and have this addressed. He told us this call could come a wk prior to new court date. The very next day though, he received a call from the Director. After M. Cheronis talked to the Director, presented evidence, the Director told him he was “going to have the case dismissed” and Cheronis called my son. This was nothing short of a miracle! Incredible effort and outcome. He is THE best at what he does. He’s given my son hope for a future, a “win”, and a second chance to right this calculated wrongdoing towards him; and…finally see his sons. He’s got counsel from a colleague of Cheronis to take it from here for custody. We will be forever indebted to Cheronis for what he did, how he saved my son, and the passion for the integrity of due process..the judicial process. The old adage, “you get what you pay for” applies here. He’s indeed, the best! I more than highly recommend him. Make the Call.

I was driving through chicago and I received a dui and I contacted Mike right away. For over a year and a half I’ve watched him tried relentlessly to put me in a better situation. Though the outcome was as expected he put my well-being as a priority and for that I applaud him. Definitely a no bs atto...rney. Retained Mike to represent me (a teacher) in a Title IX complaint against me in a high school district. Although it didn't happen instantly, the district eventually completely dropped the complaint and investigation with no further action. This was in large part due to Mike's clear and concise advi...ce and assistance at every step. From drafting the best e-mails and statement, to preparing me to be interviewed and advising me during the interview. Mike is responsive and always on top of things. I found myself in a horrible situation where I was being falsely accused of Sexual Misconduct at my University. The school provided no help and treated me with a guilty until proven innocent attitude. The University provided me with no information on the case and the investigation was mishandled and ...incredibly biased.
