Fern Trevino is a top notch attorney, counselor and coach

Fern Trevino is a real gem of an attorney specializing in employment law. After a successful career with a major Illinois employer, I found myself needing the assistance of Fern to help me sort through complex HR issues. Fern has a unique background that makes her not only a competent attorney but an... excellent counselor and coach. Fern is a class act and helped me handle/resolve my case. Priceless ! Give Fern Trevino a call you won’t be disappointed.

Empathic, honest, intelligent lawyer.

The best decision I made recently was to retain Fern Trevino as my legal counsel. I needed help resolving a dispute in my workplace. I didn’t need to sue my employer, but I needed help dealing with a sticky HR situation dealing with workplace accommodations and my employer was being a bully. Fer...n was full of compassion, helpful advice, and most importantly, full of common sense. She helped steer me to a positive resolution and guided me towards the best outcome for me. She was honest, empathetic, understanding. She made sure I understood my options every step of the way. She helped me draft some very effective letters that ultimately helped me get the solution I needed. I would not hesitate at all to recommend to anyone needing a lawyer. I am posting this anonymously for obvious reasons, but don't let the anonymous nature of the review make it any less valuable.

Incredibly disappointed

I reached out to Ferns firm regarding a hostile work environment claim. I was nothing but disappointed in her inability to provide a service. During our initial consultation I had to repeat basic facts (such as whether or not I took disability) of my case three separate times. After the action items ...from our initial consultation, I reached out to her for additional help, as my case was not resolved. It took three separate occasions of reaching out to her staff to get her to return my calls. In addition, when she returned my call, she still did not remember the proper facts of the case. I think she properly misrepresented me on account of her being "too busy."

We were surprised by to learn of this complaint on Avvo because the client did not raise any issues directly with the firm. Had we had the opportunity to discuss the complaint with this particular client, we would have said: 1. During an initial consultation, clients reveal an enormous amount of detail. While we are absorbing that detail, we are analyzing the facts legally and considering what options might be the client’s best interest from a practical standpoint. Also, during the initial client meeting, we must provide structure to the consultation, so that we can elicit the information we need to render an opinion. Further, clients are often quite emotional during the first meeting because they have just lost their job or fear losing their job. In short, we have to learn and process a large of information in a short period of time, take adequate notes and tend to our clients emotionally. For these reasons, sometimes we do have to ask the client to repeat some of the information he or she provided. 2. The office receives many intake calls, oftentimes simultaneously, and if one or two employees are absent or if I am out of town, we occasionally but rarely fall behind in returning calls. I can say with all honesty that this office prides itself on returning calls promptly. If we slipped up in promptly returning this client’s call, I would have liked to have been able to apologize and explore options to correct the situation. 3. I see many clients a week and oftentimes several a day. It is impossible for me to recall the details of all clients who consult with me. If a client calls back a week or two after being seen, I may have to ask him/her to briefly refresh my memory on some of the detail, especially if the client calls on a particularly busy day. Resolve discrimination dispute

My experience with Fern and her team was amazing. Fern and her team was completely dedicated to resolve my dispute and work very hard in my best interest. It took about eight and one half (8.5) months for team to resolve my case. Throughout this time, we communicated almost on daily / weekly basis... via emails, phone, text. This made me feel part of the team all along. Fern communication with me was very open and candid throughout the duration of my case. This allow me to participate and make correct decisions during each phase of the case I highly recommend Fern.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
