I've been a trial lawyer for over 35 years. I graduated from Yale in 1981, and NYU Law School in 1984. My career began with 4 years as a criminal prosecutor in 1984, and then 10 years at a mid-sized Chicago law firm where I became a partner. I have litigation training from some of the best trial lawyers in the city.
I opened my law office in 1998. In addition to practicing law full time, I've been teaching trial skills to practicing lawyers every year since 1994 as a faculty member with The National Institute for Trial Advocacy; and I've been teaching trial skills to law students as an adjunct professor of law at Northwestern Law School every year since 1995.
Because I practice law and also teach trial skills to practicing lawyers and law students, I am constantly studying and using the skills that make a trial lawyer successful. I use that combination of study and experience to benefit my clients. If you need a lawyer to handle business litigation, civil rights litigation, employment litigation, criminal post-conviction or federal habeas proceedings, or an appeal in state or federal court, call for a free consultation.

It became abundantly clear to me during my initial phone consultation...

It was truly an honor to have been given the opportunity to speak with Mr Douglas Harper. I called for a consultation, yet I was met with compassion and wisdom. One would think that a successful lawyer with his own practice would be solely coin-operated, so to speak, but I quickly realized that his m...

Right after we posted a request on Avvo, Mr Harper called, spent considerable amount of time understanding the case and then agreed to review paperwork before asking us to make an upfront commitment. He not only reviewed the documents, but pointed out some very specific details of the case that we...

Mr. Harper spent time reviewing my matter in a paid consultation. He showed a great amount of diligence and respect when listening to and reviewing our case. His ability to be clear when discussing the issues was extremely helpful. In addition, his honesty was refreshing. At the end of the consul...

Mr. Harper was amazing, he didn't speak to me as if I were a client. Mr.Harper gave both scenarios on how my case could go either way And he was right I'd recommend Mr.Harper to anyone that needed legal advice:')
