WE HANDLE CIVIL RIGHTS, POST-CONVICTION, APPEALS, AND BUSINESS LITIGATION, IN/NEAR CHICAGO, ILLINOIS

I've been a trial lawyer for over 35 years. I graduated from Yale in 1981, and NYU Law School in 1984. My career began with 4 years as a criminal prosecutor in 1984, and then 10 years at a mid-sized Chicago law firm where I became a partner. I have litigation training from some of the best trial lawyers in the city.

I opened my law office in 1998. In addition to practicing law full time, I've been teaching trial skills to practicing lawyers every year since 1994 as a faculty member with The National Institute for Trial Advocacy; and I've been teaching trial skills to law students as an adjunct professor of law at Northwestern Law School every year since 1995.

Because I practice law and also teach trial skills to practicing lawyers and law students, I am constantly studying and using the skills that make a trial lawyer successful. I use that combination of study and experience to benefit my clients. If you need a lawyer to handle business litigation, civil rights litigation, employment litigation, criminal post-conviction or federal habeas proceedings, or an appeal in state or federal court, call for a free consultation.

Outstanding legal representation both in court and out!
Mr. Douglas has handled both Real Estate and Business/Partnership issues for me over the last 7 years. He has proven time and time again to have our interests, front and center, as the first priority. Not only is he knowledgeable at his profession but he is also very creative in his approach to solving problems. I highly recommend Mr. Harper to anyone seeking legal council from an attorney possessing a high degree of ethics and integrity.

There is hope for the legal profession
It was truly an honor to have been given the opportunity to speak with Mr Douglas Harper. I called for a consultation, yet I was met with compassion and wisdom. One would think that a successful lawyer with his own practice would be solely coin-operated, so to speak, but I quickly realized that his motivations were friendlier to ideals of justice than that of financial gain. I benefited greatly from his legal advice and in the process he helped me think much more critically about my situation. In my limited experience in this life, I’ve had the pleasure of crossing paths with a handful of brilliant minded people — it’s safe to say that Mr Harper is on that list. So with that being said, I’d highly recommend anyone to seek the legal assistance of Douglas Harper.

Mr Harper is not only a great lawyer, but he is a wonderful human being
Right after we posted a request on Avvo, Mr Harper called, spent considerable amount of time understanding the case and then agreed to review paperwork before asking us to make an upfront commitment. He not only reviewed the documents, but pointed out some very specific details of the case that were otherwise overlooked by us. Mr Harper demonstrated extreme professionalism, vast knowledge of subject, thorough attention to detail and an extremely polite nature. I was floored with his manner of handling our case and while we eventually couldn't work together (due to some of our internal reasons) I would very highly recommend Mr Harper and his law firm to everyone.

Great Experience with Mr. Harper
Mr. Harper spent time reviewing my matter in a paid consultation. He showed a great amount of diligence and respect when listening to and reviewing our case. His ability to be clear when discussing the issues was extremely helpful. In addition, his honesty was refreshing. At the end of the consultation, I felt like he cared about the situation and did his best to give us the best information possible.

at a lost for words
Mr. Harper was amazing, he didn't speak to me as if I were a client. Mr.Harper gave both scenarios on how my case could go either way And he was right I'd recommend Mr.Harper to anyone that needed legal advice:')
