Not thorough, but kind staff.

I would like the staff and the attorneys I've worked with (Bryan and Jacqueline) outside of the case. Work-wise, I don't think they were very professional or detail oriented. They helped me with a court order protection and divorce with one child and no assets to split. In the beginning, I had let... things slide a bit, but I should have seen them as red flags. 1. Bryan asked me to arrive 30 minutes early to the Skokie courthouse, so we can meet, recap, and chat in person for the first time. I was there... but he didn't show up until right before the hearing. 2. Billing is an issue and it's not fair to invoice your client for something that they could have done effectively. I advise for all clients to audit your invoices and make sure it's accurate. Whenever I did ask for them not to charge me to certain action items, they complied, but they never apologized for it. They were only complying just to get by. They admitted that. A. I was invoiced for speaking with Bryan for an hour, but I was on the phone with him for no more than 20 minutes. B. I've spoken to them on the phone many times and emailed many times about my point of views on things and what was most important to me, but they were creating agreements (for both me and my husband to sign) that didn't even include drug tests and/or the court order protection's expiration date. It's like they only added names and dates to a generic template and sent it to me. Why should a client pay for the edits to remind them (about the drug tests and court order protection)? The second time around (months later), we had to create an updated agreement. This time, they did include the court order protection, but still did not mention anything about drug tests. C. They missed a deadline to submit my financial affidavit to the court, and because of there, a string of action items followed. That's neglect on their part and they still charged me for that. They didn't apologize either. gosh, after so many comments I made about the unfair charges, you would think they would pick up their game. D. The other attorney was sending us illegible documents, but no one said anything. They just sent it to me as well. Did I seriously just pay you to review these documents or not review the documents? 3. The staff here is accommodating by email. It's great when you're busy and don't need to chat about everything, but it seems like they forgot how to be thorough and "delight a customer." They would email me documents from the court without any explanation. Maybe in their defense, they're trying to be mindful about accruing my fees... but I'm sure their office can type between 40-60 words per minute. I can type 80 WPM, so I'm not asking for much. It would have been nice to have some blurb in the emails so I can understand what's going on. Legal vocabulary isn't in simple. They know that. They studied for years to do this and passed the Bar examination. For $375 an hour, the minutes used should have been more effective. It felt like I had to do so much work on my end to make sure they were hearing what I needed or they were reviewing my ex's documents. Customers shouldn't have to try to be someone's customer. Again, I liked them, but work-wise, our expectations were not aligned. Maybe if the emails had more detail and they remembered what makes my case special, we would have had a better view of expectations.

Complicated cases

Bryan Wilson helped our family through a very difficult and unusual series of events in the life of our disabled adult daughter, including a divorce, an order of protection case, and a child custody case. He was extremely knowledgeable about the law in general, and conveyed that information clearly ...and usefully; but he also was very open to learning about all the nuances of these cases that were far beyond the pale of “normal.” While his chief aim was expert litigation, he and his team also remained empathic to the emotional drain our whole family experienced during these processes. The staff worked together seamlessly when Bryan needed to have coverage for our daughter’s cases. We are grateful for the way this firm, and Bryan in particular, were able to bring successful closure to a very challenging set of circumstances.
