About Jorie

Biography

As an honest and caring criminal defense attorney focused on minimizing your criminal record, either presently or from years ago, I genuinely care about preserving and/or restoring your rights and will fight hard for you!

I strive to provide caring and ethical zealous representation to all of my clients, whether they are charged with a small misdemeanor offense or one or more serious felony crimes. I promise to give each client my complete attention, from pre-arrest advocating to post-sentence advice/representation.

My goal is to minimize, even erase (when possible), past criminal arrests, sentences and/or convictions so that each of my clients can continue to move forward with his or her personal and professional goals in life. I provide expungement, sealing and clemency petition representation statewide.

I firmly believe in our country's 2nd Amendment and do this type of work so that Illinois citizens can exercise his or her rights in this regard. Once forfeited, gun rights/privilges in our state are rarely (if ever) automatically restored, so I help people navigate this process as is necessary.

An extremely capable, knowledgeable, and caring expungement attorney, among other things.

I was researching attorneys for a possible CCLRB appeal and Ms. Johnson's website and writing regarding expungements came up due to some writing that she had done on the subject of concealed carry licenses and expunging old incidents on one's record. Additionally, I got a personal recommendation for ...her regarding an entirely separate instance resulting from an arrest over 27 years previously that I hadn't even known was on my record still until a background check. Ms. Johnson was able to research, file, follow up with all of the relevant agencies (because in Illinois, if you do not do so, they tend to not do what they are legally obligated to), and get my expungement done in a very thorough and efficient manner. She also continued to follow up and make certain that everything was in order, made sure I had all the documentation I required, and in general provided stellar legal advice and service for this situation. The entire process was as painless as can be, aside from the State of Illinois having lied to me about the status of the issues on my records, which could have been very costly to me had they not been finally dealt with. On the subject of cost, I spoke with several other lawyers about this and their quotes for handling the expungement and was given prices for the service that would have put a rather painful financial bite on me. Ms. Johnson's fees for the entire process were much lower than all of the other quotes that I got, in some cases barely half of the fees that other attorneys said they would require to facilitate the expungement for me. That, combined with the excellent representation and service, made choosing her a very easy decision. I will also say that originally I thought that because of her Aurora, IL address that she would probably be out of my geographic range, since I live in the city of Chicago, but I was very glad to find that she also has an office downtown that is very easy to get to by public transportation. I was able get all of the necessities for filing my case done via e-mail, phone, and a single in-person meeting that was very convenient for me. On a final note, the thing that made the experience of hiring Ms. Johnson stand out most was the very obvious care and personal investment she has for helping her clients. I've dealt with other attorneys and worked with them professionally, and know many people who have had experiences with legal representatives that give full validity to the famous Shakespearean quote from Dick the Butcher in Henry VI. In the case of my experience with Ms. Johnson as my attorney, I can say that she is unequivocally quite the opposite. I'd recommend her to anyone who needs smart, conscientious, capable legal representation. I have, in fact, already handed out a number of her business cards to acquaintances who may need her services and I completely expect that they will have the same excellent results and experience that I did from her.

"I have known Jorie for over 10 years as an attorney that not only gets results for her clients, but cares about them as people. We first met when she was a volunteer at the legal aid I previously worked. In my role there, I frequently interacted with our pro bono attorneys. Jorie stood out as someone that took her volunteer responsibilities seriously and treated all clients with dignity. We have now been in the same court rooms and administrative proceedings for many years, during which time Jorie has never stopped standing out as a great advocate for her clients ."

"Jorie and I met over ten years ago when she first began volunteering in the Criminal Records Program at Cabrini Green Legal Aid, an organization I worked at for over fourteen years. From the moment she began volunteering, it was clear Jorie had a passion for the work and a dedication to diligently learning all areas of criminal records relief. She is a skilled attorney that zealously advocates for her clients. They are guaranteed to have an attorney that knows the laws, has practices for many years in multiple counties in Illinois, cares about the outcome of their case, and will fight for their success."
