Client pleaded guilty several years back to one count of unauthorized video recording of victim in compromising position. State filed strenuous objection to conviction being sealed, citing public safet ... y concerns and public's right to know, and victim wrote impact statement which Judge strongly considered. After lengthy in-court arguments, Client's petition to seal conviction was granted, along with expungement of dismissed counts in same case and older, unrelated misdemeanor arrests. Client able to move forward in applying for new jobs as a result, should no longer be hindered by background and mistake he has paid for!

Since 2010, I have, on behalf of various clients, gotten a total of fourteen (14) Clemency Petitions, with Authorization to Expunge (some with Restoration of Firearm Ownership Privileges) granted by va ... rious Governors of the State of Illinois, including Hon. Pat Quinn, Hon. Bruce Rauner and Hon. J. B. Pritzker. The pardoned convictions ranged from misdemeanor to felony offenses (mostly the latter), and some were violent offenses while others were not. Several of these granted Clemency Petitions also restored firearm ownership privileges to my clients.

All cases between 2017 and 2022. State objected based on public policy, referring to an Order of Protection in 1 of the domestic cases that alleged a long history of "aggressive behavior".

I filed, on my client's behalf, an expungement petition in Cook County, after verifying the eligibility to expunge in the most recent version of the Illinois Criminal Identification Act which governs. ... Despite that, the State objected, incorrectly stating that the case wasn't yet eligible to be expunged. The objection also contended that my client was not "deserving" of the expungement relief due to the "nature of the [underlying] offense" (i.e., a violation of an order of protection). I wrote and filed a length reply to the State's objection, explaining to the Judge why the case was eligible to be expunged and, moreover, why my client was deserving of the relief. After hearing, the Judge granted my client's petition to expunge - client could not be happier!

She filed a pro se Motion to Reconsider and after I wrote and filed a detail ... ed supplement to that, we argued the motion and the Judge reversed her earlier denial, granting sealing of the case so that my client can pursue her dreams of attending nursing school!

Woman convicted in 2013 of one (1) count of violating 720 ILCS 5/12-3.05(d)(1) (she was originally charged with a total of eight (8) counts of aggravated battery to an elderly/handicapped individual bu ... t ultimately was only convicted of a single count of agg. batt. to an elderly person) sealed by Court so Petitioner can move forward with obtaining employment, something she has been struggling with since the conviction. State attempted to object but did not timely file its objection under the Illinois Criminal Identification Act; Judge agreed with my Response to State's objection and did not allow State to argue at hearing nor did she consider any of State's arguments in rendering her decision in my client's favor.
