I attended John Marshall Law School in Chicago for my law degree. I clerked for the Cook County Public Defender and the Law Office of Joseph V. Roddy during my time as a student. I obtained a real working knowledge of criminal and civil legal proceedings as a law clerk which really helped me during my first years as a licensed attorney.
After law school and passing the bar exam I worked for the Law Office of Joseph V. Roddy where I represented the Chicago Fraternal Order of Police. I also handled a variety of other civil matters ranging from real estate closings to personal injury cases.
Since starting my own practice I have worked extensively in the real estate arena both in a transactional and litigation capacity. I work closely with my family which is involved in residential and commercial real estate development. Through my work with my father I have made extensive contacts in the real estate world and have gone on to represent many types of clients from first time homebuyers to veteran real estate developers.
With the economy over the last couple of years my practice has shifted to handling a myriad of real estate litigation cases. I handle foreclosure defense, contract disputes, broker's commission disputes, mechanic's liens, and zoning and land use issues.
I'm a graduate of Monmouth College where I studied Environmental Science and Chemistry. I attended Monmouth College on a full tuition scholarship for Highland Bagpiping. I was a member of the Monmouth College Pipe Band during my time at the school. I am still an avid bagpipe player and am a founding member of the City of Chicago Pipe Band. I travel throughout the US, Canada, and UK with the band performing and competing against other Grade One pipe bands.
In addition to playing the bagpipes I am also an avid golfer and road cyclist. I also enjoy spending time with my two Wheaten Terriers, Bentley and Higgins.

I worked with Michael on a legal matter. He was non-responsive and hard to reach. At least on the big day, he showed up for me.

"I strongly endorse Michael. I have already referred him to family members. His in depth knowledge of the law, and the principled way in which he practices, makes him stand out among family law attorneys. He seeks reasonable solutions, and stands his ground when opposing counsel attempts to play game. The balance of knowing when to fight and when not to is a rarely recognized skill necessary to best serve clients - and Michael has these attributes in spades."
"I endorse Michael Forkan based on the numerous cases we have collaborated on over the past few years. Mr. Forkan is an organized and thorough attorney who is familiar with a multitude of facets of the real estate industry and how they interact with real estate law."
