It was my second DUI and I put myself in a very bad place this time. We sat down and in great detail and with patience he explained what was in front of me, I had no idea of the long process I was required to go through, I had made a large regrettable mistake this time and I needed expert representat...ion this time and I left knowing I had just that with Jack, I had witnessed his skill and reputation with my first DUI. Jack is a great lawyer. He was great with helping me get my license reinstated from a revocation. He seems well connected; He knew the Hearing Office officials well by name. I was faced with a big concern when I found out my son had been charged with a DUI, speeding and a couple of other tickets. Worse case is that he would get jail time as well as a conviction that would stay with him forever. I have never been in a situation like this and didn’t know what to do. Ini...tially not having a lot of time to find a lawyer before the first court date, I found Jack on Avvo read his reviews and decided to call him. Jack called me back promptly and was able to get us in that same day to gather all the facts. That first day Jack was straight forward and honest telling us that these were serious charges, but if we followed his instructions we would be able to minimize the collateral damage. He was able to put us at ease (especially me) by explaining everything clearly ensuring we understood. He explained step by step what would happen and in what order, by the time we left that first day we already had a list of items he said my son would have to get completed. He provided us all the information we needed, as well as letting us know he would drive this to closure. The first court date was nerve racking for me, but Jack again made sure to explain what would happen that day and every other court date. Jack kept up on everything going on with my sons’ charges and made sure to keep us updated. Fast forward to the trial date this is where I was really impressed; Jack analyzed the court room taking into consideration the temporary judge vs the actual judge who was out that day. Explained to the both of us what the Prosecutor had agreed to and what she was seeking (conviction on 2 of the 4 offenses), weighted the options between the two judges and we decided to move forward that day. During the trial there wasn’t anything Jack said or did that did not have a purpose, this proved to be a huge advantage. Jack was able to get two of the tickets dropped, 24 months supervision and some community service. Compared to convictions that would be with my son forever this was a huge win. I can’t thank Jack enough for all the work he did and for helping me get my son on the right path by not having a conviction on his record that could have potentially ruined his life before it even started. When the incident occur, I was beside myself, what do I do? Get a lawyer or Use a public defender? Wait and see what happens before I retain a lawyer? Not knowing much about the court process and what is to be expected. Incident occurred at 11 PM and I called Jack Zaremba's office around 2 AM - so...meone answered, took a message and Jack returned my call in the morning. Jack explain the possibilities of situation, straight forward on his fees and was extremely accessible and patient to my "freak out" and indecision on what to do. Jack never discourage using the public defender, he never pushed us to use him - it was our decision, no pressure, extremely knowledgeable of the law and the particular of Joliet courthouse and players. For my situation - retaining Jack immediately definitely helped our case. He was able to step in and talk to the police, prosecutors right away on our behalf. Something we could not do ourselves, and public defender could not as it takes time to be assign one. This definitely stop things from getting worse by having Jack step in immediately on our behalf, sending the message that we are well represented. Jack knowing the system / players is the expertise we needed, we had a Bench trial. And Jack pointed out things to the judge that was in our favor - it was a really border line case down to the wire - and we prevail with some stipulations but it's all good. Extremely doubtful that we would have had the same outcome with anyone else representing.
