I was very fortunate to get introduced to and work with Pierina (Rina). In dealing with a DCFS investigation involving our disabled child, it was very comforting to work with a lawyer that was both compassionate to me (a father who loves his daughter) AND forceful advocate the truth... while prepar...ing for all possible scenarios. Late last winter, in pursuit of legal representation regarding a DCFS matter, I contacted Rina, who provided keen insight into the peculiar nature of DFCS law (as opposed to criminal or civil law), at the same time that she patiently and sympathetically ascertained the facts in the case. Several m...onths -- and one global pandemic -- later, I have received the legal decision sought, notwithstanding virtual meetings, uncomfortable masks, and aggressive lawyering on the other side. Rina did something else that was novel: she persuaded me to let her do all of the talking! In her preliminary review and analysis of the case, she did a fabulous job of discovering the several failings of the DCFS investigator, whose negligence she subsequently exposed during questioning in the hearing. It would be putting it mildly to say that I am pleased that I picked up the phone and called Rina -- even after another attorney informed me that DCFS cases are not worth his time and effort, as DCFS is not required to prove findings "beyond a shadow of a doubt " Rina has thus earned my enthusiastic and unequivocal endorsement. When I called Rina, I was given her number from my divorce attorney to handle a case that was wrongfully thrown at me through a state agency.
