Twin Cities Best Lawyer

Mr. Nelson provided exceptional legal representation during my divorce. As an executive in corporate finance, I really value attention to detail and problem-solving skills. His expertise, guidance, and dedication surpassed my expectations. I faced a challenging situation with an ex-wife seeking ...more than 50% custody of our two young children. My ex-wife attacked my character and was dishonest, attempting to get the kids more than 50% of the time. Mr. Nelson was able to dismantle the false narrative my ex-wife presented, secured me 50% custody, and maintained professionalism throughout to all parties involved. Additionally, my ex-wife was seeking spousal maintenance, more than 50% of our marital estate, and attorney fees. Mr. Nelson’s skillful arguments to opposing counsel presented a clear, concise position in my favor, brokering no possible legal recourse for my ex-wife and her counsel. Going through the divorce was the hardest time in my life. I encountered difficulties as my spouse shared inaccurate information and made false claims, leading to challenging family dynamics. If you seek a top-notch divorce attorney, or aren’t happy with your current lawyer, I highly recommend Eric Nelson—he's the best in the Twin Cities.

Reliable, very professional service ...

Eric was my counsel for a long drawn out divorce in which the other side worked a strategy based on lower cost, delay, and lack of cooperation. The attorney for the other side was eventually replaced, and we were awarded a $15,000 judgement for those tactics. Eric's approached of getting strong and... strict documentation of the parties finances, and their education and employability was crucial to the outcome, which was achieved in a final mediation. That result was truly fair based the parties contribution to the marriage and prospects for future employment. No alimony was awarded.

Excellent and Extremely Competent Lawyer

My divorce was an experience I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy, but Eric provided me with sound advice, and walked me through a very painful OFP and divorce with my sanity and finances intact at the end. Eric was very attentive during the process, often answered his phone at the first ring, respo...nded to emails promptly, and even called me back while he was on vacation. Eric handled both my divorce case and a civil Order for Protection case that was brought against me. The allegations in the OFP case were very serious, but untrue. Eric tried the case and due to his 20 years of knowledge and experience, and got it entirely dismissed. In the divorce case, Eric managed to negotiate a clean settlement that was at the most favorable end of the range of possibilities in my case. I always felt that Eric truly cared about me and about my case, which meant a lot in a very difficult time of my life. I would wholeheartedly recommend Eric Nelson for those that are in need.

Knowledgeable and easy to work with

I'm so happy that I came across Eric on Avvo! From the first, he impressed me with his knowledge and conviction. He listened and went out of his way to make my divorce, which could have been difficult, as smooth and effortless as possible. If I had any advice to give, it would be to 1) be open to ...your attorney's suggestions; and 2) consider Eric! He's a gem.

Eric Nelson changed my world! Gave me back my relationship with my boys that was seemingly lost forever!

I made the worst mistake of my life when I signed my divorce decree without legal representation. I failed my children because I signed away any and all legal rights I had pertaining to their future relying only on verbal agreements that I would be able to be just as involved as if I had full legal ...and physical custody. I quickly learned that verbal agreements do not hold any weight in the real world. When I contacted Eric, I didn’t know what I was looking for but I knew I needed to do something for my boys. Everything that I did involving my relationship with my boys had to be cleared by my ex-wife. It was so bad that I was actually being denied the right to bring them to their grandparent’s house to visit. I was stuck. Eric’s honesty towards my case was apparent from the first time we talked. He told me it was going to be “a really tough case”. I was explained that when someone signs away their legal rights, it is just about impossible to get them back. He didn’t tell me what I wanted to hear, he told me what I needed to hear. He didn’t fill me with unrealistic hopes but instead directed our focus on what was attainable. Eric’s focus was always on what was best for my boys and me. His integrity as a person was evident every time we talked. He showed genuine concern for my situation and I honestly believe that he wanted to make difference in the current situation. Eric expertise was the difference in my case. It turned out to be a long, hard fought battle which ultimately ended in my favor and then some. Eric and his paralegal John were absolutely amazing. They didn’t miss anything and were on top of everything. It always seemed as though they were two steps ahead. Eric knew what the courts needed to see and made sure that we were ready to present it to them. Eric court etiquette was very professional, he was very well prepared and it was obvious that he did his homework. He didn’t fumble around a stack of papers looking for answers; he knew exactly what we wanted to say. I never once doubted what Eric and John were doing because they always kept me informed with an open line of communication. It can be very costly for a person to contact a lawyer all the time when you have questions. I always knew that when Eric needed to contact me, he would. Eric never treated me like a case, he treated me like a man that needed his help and his willingness to provide me with it proved to be the difference. I would absolutely recommend Eric to anyone looking for an excellent lawyer! Eric and John changed my life, and saved my boys!

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
