Eric Lawrence Newmark

Eric has earned jury acquittals in a wide variety of criminal cases including first-degree murder, criminal sexual conduct, felony drug charges, driving charges with fatalities, and many others.

Eric represents individuals throughout Minnesota accused of crimes in both State and Federal court. Eric is also licensed and practices in Wisconsin. Eric is on a very short list of attorneys who have earned jury acquittals or dismissals in homicide cases in both Minnesota and Wisconsin. Eric represents individuals in all types of criminal cases including violent crimes, drug crimes, sex crimes, white collar/fraud offenses, and driving offenses including DUI/DWI. He also represents individuals on appeals in both the Minnesota Court of Appeals and the Minnesota Supreme Court, as well as the 8th Circuit (Federal) Court of Appeals. Eric also represents attorneys and other professionals accused of unethical or unprofessional conduct before licensing boards.

Eric is a Minnesota State Bar Association Certified Criminal Trial Specialist. Eric is a former adjunct professor at Hamline University School of Law where he taught criminal procedure and trial skills. He has given analysis on Minnesota legal matters for the Los Angeles Times, the national cable television station MSNBC and local TV outlets WCCO-TV and KSTP-TV. He has been invited to speak before the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers on drug interdictions, and has been a speaker at legal seminars throughout Minnesota on a range of topics including crime scene investigations, jury selection, immigration consequences of criminal convictions, and other topics.

Known for his tough, pragmatic approach to defending the accused, Eric is respected by colleagues and adversaries alike, having been recognized every year since 2000 as a “SuperLawyer” by Super Lawyers magazine published by Thomson Reuters as selected by other attorneys. Eric was one of the youngest attorneys to earn this recognition.

Eric is 1988 graduate of Wayzata High School, a 1992 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison (BA with distinction-Political Science/Journalism) and earned his J.D. in 1995 from Hamline University School of Law (cum laude).
