Doesn't keep his word
Our case was a long waiting case. Waiting on the system for about 9 months. Mel didn't keep us informed unless I asked. He wants his money up front and was clear that's what was important to him. He fought some for us but I saw he only did an average job. He wasnt thorough and when we did go in front...
I was able to avoid criminal charges for the client-student, reverse an unjust suspension on appeal by the college which trespassed the client out of school for allegations of assault, and obtained two favorable offers for settlement which would have erased all of the loan debt this client had with the university and would have converted all of his failed grades to Withdrawals. I offered to reimburse part of my retainer to provide incentive to the client to accept the offer. Unfortunately, the client's mother had a greater input into his reasoning than I did and the client declined both favorable offers. When the client declined the offers, I continued with the matter completing additional work for which I was not paid. I spent numerous hours with both the client and his family, discussing the case, the process, the evidence, the rules, and different potential outcomes. I pursued the directives set for me by the client and his mother, and accomplished success in one matter but we did not succeed in the client's claim against the university. I did not charge the client for all of the time I had spent on the client's case, being paid approximately 1/3 of the time spent on the case.

"One of the most brilliant minds combined with an unparalleled work ethic. Most likely to find a way for the cases that seem indefensible. If I were ever to be in criminal trouble, I wouldn't hire anyone else."
"I endorse this lawyer wholeheartedly, Mr. Welch is a tremendous lawyer who is always willing to go outside the box in his representation of his client."
