About Heather

Learn Heather’s areas of practice.

As an attorney my goal is to help my clients navigate the legal process in the most fair and equitable manner with the least amount of stress possible for the client and their children.  However, I don't rose-color the situation for my clients.  I believe in honesty and integrity in my practice and do not bend in that regard.  Part of being a good lawyer, in my opinion, is being able to tell a client when they are not being reasonable or when their expectations are skewed.  As attorneys we do not have a crystal ball to know what the future may bring, but we can certainly stand by them as they walk through the tunnel to the other side.  I'd like to think my clients see me as someone they can trust to walk them through that tunnel.

When I'm not practicing law, I prefer to spend my time with my husband and kids.  In the winter, we ski; in the summer, we're at the ball park.  I think it's important for children to see their parents volunteering, so I volunteer with the legal clinic here in Eau Claire, our local baseball league, church, and sit on the board of Wisconsin Association for Perinatal Care.

Review for Heather Pauls
Heather was honest, hardworking on my case, compassionate and very knowledgeable. An excellent attorney and wonderful person to go through such a difficult time with. I have referred her to many people and will continue to do so!

Hands down, the BEST attorney EVER!
Attorney Pauls was an absolute gift after having battled previous custody issues using a different attorney. We had called her office several years earlier and the impression I got from her assistant Sarah, always stuck with me. I knew we should have hired Heather at that moment. However, for whatever reason, we didn't and had ended up with a terrible attorney. A few years later, we found ourselves in need of an attorney to go back to court and our first phone call was made to Heather. Our case dealt with a teenage boy choosing to come live with his father instead - which involved also having a G.A.L. attorney appointed. Heather is very knowledgeable, professional, kind, listened to our questions/concerns. Heather and Sarah were very quick to respond back with a phone call or email. She was very upfront on all of our options and the possible outcomes, what to expect, and what we should do to prepare. Her sense of humor helped my husband relate to her, and relax, during the stressful times. We are so very pleased with how our case was handled by Heather and her assistant Sarah - they know so much and take the stress out of everything!!! Honestly, if our case turned out not in our favor, we would still recommend her based on our previous experiences with a different attorney - the quality of her work exceeded our expectations 1,000 times over. If you are looking for a family law attorney, you would be an idiot not to hire her!

Very thankful
My circumstances led me to needing to find a different lawyer. I was completely stressed and worried. I felt that no one had my back. I was devastated from my inevitable divorce. A friend recommended Heather. From the moment i called and spoke with Sarah at this law firm, i knew i would be in good hands. She was professional and resourceful. She answered all of my questions and I set up a time to meet Heather. The day i met Heather was the day i started to feel less anxiety. She was so kind and professional, and she had a calming presence. We talked and i knew i would hire her. Heather really cares about her "people" and she is quick to answer questions and lessen worry. She is very professional and knowledgeable. She restored my sanity and walked with me through the most horrible heartbreaking time in my life. I am very thankful I was recommended to her. I would highly recommend Heather.

Intelligent, thorough, and down to earth
Heather provided a comfortable atmosphere where I felt listened to and things were handled in a timely manner. She allowed me to give direction on all matters, but kindly counseled me, when needed, in order to ensure I understood the full picture of what I was dealing with. She is smart and very savvy in her fields of law practice. She is able to anticipate what may come next and plan ahead in order to protect her client and their rights. Heather's legal assistant is also very easy to work with, caring and knowledgeable. I would recommend Heather Pauls to anyone in need of representation; she is the type of person that genuinely cares about her clients and will do all she can to help them through their legal matters.

So grateful!
I worked with Heather Pauls on terminating the guardianship my parents had of my daughter. It was a long process and it was the hardest things I had to go through. At times I didn't believe in myself but Heather remained a constant and supported me through the whole thing. I tried doing this on my own but got nowhere with it and with Heather's help we won the case and I now have my daughter back full-time.

I retained Ms. Pauls in regard to filing bankruptcy. This was a situation that I never thought I would ever find myself in, so finding someone to assist me with this process was very important. From the first day I met Heather, she made me feel better about the process than I had before. She did not judge me or my past spending habits. Instead, she listened to me, was empathetic and reassured me that not only was I not a failure, but that I could overcome this and it would not 'last forever'. She walked me through each step of the process in a way that I could understand and gave me various options to consider. Between Sarah, her paralegal, and Heather, they kept me up-to-date on the progress of the case and were very prompt in answering my questions, which was greatly appreciated. Heather stood with me through the entire process, including the court hearing itself and was great at answering my questions as well as pointing out different things that were happening so I could better understand the process. I cannot say enough good things about the assistance I received from Heather and Sarah both. They were very professional and yet very easy to talk to and relate to. I would HIGHLY recommend Heather to anyone who is facing this type of situation. Thank you again for all that you did!!

Always there for you
Heather is always there - willing and eager to answer any question(s), give guidance and a sense of direction even when your feeling lost. Heather was my previous attorney, and recommended that I change attorneys because of the county I lived in. This means she LOST money sending me to another reputable attorney. She did this because it was in the best interest of ME, and my case. What more could you ask for? Well she will provide more! Anytime I have a concern, or need an ear - she is there. Go find that in todays world with attorneys! I have referred many acquaintances to her, all with proven results. You would be a fool not to give her a chance.

By Far the Best
Heather was the third and last attorney I interviewed when looking for a divorce lawyer for our marriage of 27 years. But my first meeting with Heather sold me on her, that everything would be OK, that she would help me get through this trying divorce… that she understood how important my 4 children were to me... I wasn’t just another person coming in off the street… I was a real person in need, and she was there to walk side by side with me through this ordeal… And she did!! I would recommend Heather without a second thought to anyone needing a lawyer for a divorce. She was very understanding, kind, and caring for the situation I was in… She was very compassionate to my then wife during the whole process – as it was a tough situation we were going through... She showed complete mastery of the process, the required steps, the paperwork, and the terms of the settlement. Heather and her assistant, Sarah alleviated much of the stress I had with the divorce – by not throwing all the requirements at me... at one time, but by feeding me small bits, in order not to overload me with the emotions, the details, and the process.. She made sure I fully understood everything – and also that my wife did as well. She answered promptly (usually that very day) all questions of a person confused and going through his first (and hopefully) only divorce. She was very open in wanting to be in our divorce process as little or as much as I wanted her to be there… She pushed me to work through the details of the divorce outside her office as much as possible… To work through the details with my wife… To negotiate with my wife... Even to the point of wanting us to try and work things us out... But she was totally there for any questions that I had… Sarah, her assistant, was always completely on top of everything with all the required details and paperwork… An excellent team… And even pushing back on me, when I was making decisions based on emotion, and not the real-life situation. In the end, everything worked out at the final hearing as I hoped, and as we had planned… I want no other lawyer than Heather going forward – though I pray I never have that need again. But Heather and Sarah are the best!! And I’m happy to have met both!

Wonderful Attorney
Heather did a wonderful job representing me in my divorce. She kept me informed and answered all my questions promptly. She made sure I understood the process and terms of the settlement. The divorce was much less stressful for me knowing that she was in my corner. While all the final decisions were mine she advised me on what she thought was the best solution for me. I wouldn't hesitate to hire Heather again anytime I need an great attorney.

excellent attorney
I would recommend Attorney Pauls to anyone. She is kind, caring, and goes above and beyond her duties as an attorney. You are not just another client, or case. She recognizes you are a real person that needs her help and knowledge and she will do everything she can to help you proceed within the limits of the law.

HIGHLY Reccomended
Attorney Pauls is an excellent attorney who is straight to the point and honest. Communication is great, and response to issues are excellent. Heather even communicates after business hours because she cares about each indivdual person she represents and their case. Highly recommended, if I had to give a down fall it would be the cost - BUT you do get what you pay for!

Outstanding, Personal & Professional!
As most people know or have heard, finding an attorney and taking those first vulnerable steps towards divorce are some of the hardest points in life. From the moment I first met Heather, her kind yet professional manner assured me "it would be OK" and from then on it was. Beyond obvious intelligence and professionalism, Heather encompassed compassion and understanding. I never doubted her experience, advice or dedication to my case, and now that my divorce is final, I can honestly say I picked the best.

Former Client
This attorney is very fake and will tell you things that sound good. I was told to move where my ex moves regardless of how many times they move. When I called this attorney she would either take days to call or not call me back at all. On the outside this attorney looks the part, on the inside, very fake and not much of a go-getter as an attorney should be in my opinion. I believe this attorney has a good heart, just believe as I do for most attorneys is out to make lots of money. She is definitely in the right field.

Response from Heather Pauls August 25, 2015
Unfortunately because this person did not leave any name to identify their case with, I am unable to determine who this might be and whether or not I represented them. However, as with any case, we certainly would want to know if our clients are not satisfied and I would invite this person to contact us via telephone or email to discuss their complaint.

"Attorney Heather Pauls is a pleasure to work with. She is knowledgeable as to the law and will seek the best resolution for her client, but she does so in a manner which reduces conflict between the parties. This is especially important where children are involved. I have no hesitation in recommending Ms. Pauls."

Relationship: Fellow lawyer in community
"Heather Pauls is an excellent attorney. She is incredibly knowledgeable in the areas of family law and bankruptcy. This is evident in her large caseload with everything from simple Guardian ad Litem work to complicated divorces. She is a pleasure to work with, even when she is on the opposing side. Her easy going personality aids her clients as other attorney's are able to negotiate deals without needing to go to court. If a deal cannot be made, Heather is excellent in the courtroom as she is familiar with courtroom procedure and will not succumb to pressure from adversary counsel. Heather is genuinely a good person as she cares about her clients as well as her community. Heather volunteers on many various boards in the community and lends a hand at the free legal clinic. I consider Heather a top-notch attorney and person."
