Heidi M. Eglash's law practice over the last 20 years has been dedicated to the mission of service to clients, as well as the management of an independent law office after more than a decade of corporate and small-firm practice.  Recognizing a strong interest in promoting the success of small business and the sound stewardship of human and financial resources by individuals, Heidi has chosen to utilize her broad knowledge and experience to serve as a lawyer to individual and business clients and to assist them in the resolution of their legal issues, from the routine to the unexpected, in a range of legal practice areas most likely to impact them.  Heidi’s goal -- and the goal of the team of lawyers and legal service professionals she works with -- is to provide clients with valuable services and dedicated representation, delivered with professionalism and integrity, to allow clients to be fully informed of their choices and projected outcomes, confident in their decisions and able to achieve the best possible solutions to their legal questions or concerns.  

 

A Milwaukee native and first-generation American, Heidi earned degrees in International Business and German from St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin, and in Law from Tulane Law School in New Orleans, Louisiana. She has traveled extensively through student exchange programs and personal trips to visit friends and family in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, among other places. Before making her home in La Crosse in 1999, she graduated from the Future Milwaukee community leadership program, and she utilizes this background in her involvement in various community organizations and initiatives in La Crosse and southwestern Wisconsin.

 

Heidi values her home life with her husband, 2 step-children and the family pets. In addition to traveling, she enjoys attending concerts, plays and art exhibitions, participating in all the great outdoor activities the Coulee Region offers, watching movies, reading, cooking, practicing yoga and spending time with family and friends.

Estate Planning
I hired Heidi to prepare my Last Will and Testament and my Power of Attorney and to review my other estate plans. I was surprised at how much more complex a Will is since the one I had done many years ago. Heidi explained all of the provisions that were new to me, including that while they may not apply at this time, they are included just in case they are needed in the future. That way the provisions are in place without the need to rewrite the entire document. I found Heidi to be personable, thorough, and willing to explain things in a clear and concise manner, without using legalese, leaving me with a good understanding of what I was getting. The final documents were presented to me in a well organized, tabbed, three-ring binder which also included other informational materials and a flash drive with the documents. The only negative is that the clerical staff made errors that I caught. The initial letter to me actually misspelled my name, and a document had an incorrect middle initial. These were easily corrected. But perhaps the most egregious error was in a real estate document that had an incorrectly entered number, causing a delay at the Register of Deeds office and the need for an Affidavit of Correction.

I worked with Heidi to create legal documents for my mother which included a simple will and establishing power of attorney. Heidi was very professional yet caring as she guided my mother through the process. A year later when my mother passed away, finalizing financial and legal matters went very smoothly thanks to the guidance and documents that were created with Heidi. I found Heidi to be extremely well prepared, knowledgeable and responsive. I will be working with Heidi in the future and would highly recommend her as an attorney.

One trusted attorney
Heidi walked my husband and I through creating our trust. We felt she had a very high level of knowledge, with an even higher regard for who we were and what our goals were. She explained the pros and cons of our wishes; allowed us to ask questions; and provided answers that didn't make us feel inferior, portraying patience and care with each step. Her fees were reasonable, and she comes highly recommended by us!

Legal advice on family vacation property
I contacted Heidi for legal advice on vacation property that was gifted to me from my mother. Mom ended up in a nursing home and I had to pay a divestment penalty before my mother was eligible for financial assistance. Her advice was 100 % correct. She gave us three different options to consider and we choose the best one that we felt satisfied our situation. I am very pleased with Heidi and if needed, I will use her services again.

Fair, Knowledgeable and Trustworthy!
Heidi and her associates helped us tremendously with our Elder Care case. She is upfront, fair and diligent. I would highly recommend her services. As "Baby Boomers", my wife and I have been Primary Caregivers for my aging parents. We did our best, Mom passed away and we continued care for Dad in his/our home for as long as he was able to remain independent and we could meet his needs. With his health issues multiplying, we knew that he needed more clinical care and expertise than what we were able to provide for him. Heidi and her team were able to help us retain our home and understand the laws associated with this process. Dad is in a safe and around the clock assisted living environment now, we retained ownership of the home, have resumed our working lives and have peace of mind knowing that Dad is cared for whether we are there or not. One piece of advice to anyone in the same situation is....never think you understand Medicare Laws - they are extremely complicated - get a Lawyer who knows them! Thank you Heidi!

Preparation of Will and estate planning

Hardworking Down to Earth Lawyer

Thorough and patient attorney

Highest Recommendation
I hired Ms. Eglash to prepare my will and durable power of attorney. She and her team were exceedingly thorough in asking all the questions necessary to craft a document that left no questions unanswered regarding the distribution of my personal assets -- and my wishes should I be unable to voice them. Should I need legal counsel for other matters, Ms. Eglash will be my attorney of first choice.

Heidi helped me thru a VERY difficult time with compassion and knowledge.
I'm not sure how I would have made it thru the last year without Heidi on my side. I contacted many lawyers prior to Heidi and none of them were able to answer my questions. It truly was a blessing for my to get referred to Heidi. She provided me with knowledge and strength when I was an emotional mess. Excellent advisor, great listener, very professional.
I decided to use Mrs. Eglash for estate planning and the formation of a Trust after interviewing her and completing an initial consultation. She presented herself very well, clearly explaining her areas of practice, experience, and expertise. She was an exceptional listener compared to other lawyers I have worked with, and was very good at exploring the boundaries of my problem with relevant questions and comments. After explaining her proposal, fees, and process she would recommend, I decided to engage her for my work. After starting work for me, she maintained the same attentiveness and professional attitude I was hoping for, and quickly moved through every topic and challenge I had. Attorney Eglash Works Above and Beyond for her Clients!

Heartfelt Thanks

Very Professional and Helpful with Estate Planning
