Prior to joining Terre Family Law, Nicole Grae Smith worked for a Redding law firm from February of 2016 until early 2020, after working for a family law firm in Los Angeles. In 2020, after taking some time with her newly adopted son, Ms. Smith started her own firm, which she operated until 2023. Ms. Smith earned her Bachelors Degree magna cum laude from American Jewish University where she studied Communications, Arts, and Advocacy and minored in Bio-Ethics and Natural Sciences. She received her juris doctor from Golden Gate University School of Law where she specialized with distinction in Family Law.  

Practicing law is fundamentally an opportunity to help people during some of the most challenging times in their lives. Ms. Smith has worked in a family law firm where she handled difficult and complex family law cases from beginning to end. She has worked extensively in the area of domestic violence and restraining orders. 

Prior to joining a family law firm, Ms. Smith volunteered as a pro bono attorney for the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles at the Santa Monica Domestic Violence and Family Law Clinic, helping clients obtain restraining orders, as well as dissolutions, paternity actions, spousal support, and child custody and support. While in law school, she taught legal research classes to incarcerated persons in the San Francisco jails, worked with an environmental organization to ensure proper adherence to environmental regulations, and fought to prevent unjust evictions with a housing rights clinic. Ms. Smith was a firefighter during the pandemic and is an EMT.

Outside of the world of law practice, Ms. Smith loves spending time with her rascally blended family of her son, four fantastic step kids, and wonderful wife, growing and collecting unusual succulents, astronomy, politics, hiking, tree climbing and general shenanigans. Family first, every time.
