About Brian

Learn Brian’s areas of practice.

I am originally from Toledo, Ohio.  Born and raised in the Toledo area, I attended undergraduate school at Lourdes College in Sylvania.  After Lourdes I attended the University of Toledo College of Law.  While attending UT, I participated in the Criminal Law Practice program.  This is where a student will intern in a local prosecutor's office.  I worked in the Bowling Green Prosecutor's office for a semester.  This has given me a greater understanding of the criminal justice system, and prepared me for criminal defense work.  Additionally, as a member of the Law Review while at law school, I was the assistant managaing editor. Wanting to stay in the Toledo area, I opened my practice in Sylvania, Ohio in 2008.

In 2013 I joined the law firm of Handwork & Kerscher, LLP.  There I expanded my practice in real estate, probate, estate planning, trust and estate administration, commercial litigation, business law, domestic relations, and criminal.

On November 1, 2020, I became "of counsel" with Pfost Law, Ltd. in Perrysburg, Ohio.  I continue to focus on domestic relations law, real estate, and trust and estate administration.

Fantastic!
Brian and his office were amazing! They were kind, patient, knowledgeable, and responsive. Brian is the exact kind of attorney you want in your corner during tough times! Especially, when you have never been involved in a legal situation. A Positive Outcome for a not so positive situation. Thanks Brian!

Brian, worked consistently to resolve my probate case efficiently and effectively. He communicated my options and executed them per our discussions. His support staff was also a positive contributing factor to my experience.

Great Representative
Mr. Smith helped us through a couple of areas in our life when we needed legal representation. We retained Mr. Smith and would highly recommend him and the firm for any legal matter.

Awesome Attorney
I hired Brian 2 years ago and it was most definitely the BEST decision for my family. Brian is a very trustworthy Attorney and his response is fast! He most definitely cares about his clients and their children involved in the case. I Have recommended Brian to family and friends and they have all gave great feedback and thanked me in the end! I would not trust anyone else with my family and children, he's a awesome Attorney and I HIGHLY recommend him!

An A-list Family Attorney
When going through a complicated (aren't they all) divorce, the last thing anyone needs is an attorney that doesn't meet their expectations. There are so many emotions when going through such a difficult period in life, that thinking clearly doesn't always come easy. Brian exceeded my expectations! Having five children, communicating by phone wasn't always ideal. If I had a question, I could email him and guarantee a response that day. In an instant gratification world, that was extremely important to me! Brian always had my best interest in mind and would inform me of obstacles that I couldn't see, simply because of it being an emotional time. He is trustworthy, efficient, and honorable. If ever I were in need of a fantastic family attorney, I would absolutely hire Brian again in a heart beat!

Trustworth, calm, and just who I needed!
Brian was there for me when I needed him. In going through my divorce, I chose to not deal directly with my ex and he was excellent about working through the oppossing attorney and "battling" with my ex for information and trying to do what was in my best interest. When I had questions, he was very quick to respond with answers and if he didn't know something he wasn't afraid to admit that he didn't know, but always did his homework to find out and get to the bottom of things for both of us. For that, I greatly respect him and his character.

Custody
Paper pusher. Wanted to get it over as soon as possible. No advice , no guidance. I got way less than what I could have with this guy. Do not hire.
