I've been called a detail ninja, a trait that makes me fearless in the courtroom and always ready to deliver thoughtful solutions. I've provided decades of thorough representation in the fields of family law, litigation and attorney professional ethics matters. In family law, my experience includes representing clients in dissolution, divorce, custody and other family law proceedings. I also serve as counsel in attorney-related professional ethics matters. My relentless preparation gives me command of the facts of a case–all while maintaining a big picture perspective on the surrounding circumstances. I know my way around IT, have a strong business background (with an undergraduate degree in risk management and insurance), and am in my element in any courtroom. I am the Chair of my firm's Family Law Practice Group and served as the Chair of the Columbus Bar Association's Professional Ethics Committee from July 2019 through June 2021.

Best Decision I Could Have Made
I started my divorce with a different attorney who didn't really listen to my concerns and made me feel unreasonable for wanting my child to be safe. I switched to Joanne after a recommendation from a friend. My ex had lied at the start of my case and made it sound like he did not have a substance abuse issue and that I was withholding our child out of spite. Joanne was able to work with our guardian ad liteum to get substance abuse monitoring in place and tie it to the temporary order. Which was modified when he failed his testing. She did this so quickly after I switched to her, she really was on point from the start. She was then able to ensure that we had safe guards in place for long term protection of my child in the final orders. I walked out of my divorce with exactly what I asked for. Joanne listened to my concerns and made them the forefront of all negotiations and the finalized agreement. She advised me on other areas as well and made sure I had thought everything through even on matters that were not my main concern. I appreciated her ability to not only understand and focus on what I was most concerned about but to also focus on making sure every area was taken care of and all matters thought through. I think the most important part of my experience with her is she actually listened. She didnt question my side of the story or act like I was unreasonable. She listened and because she understood my concerns she was able to get the best solution for me. She wasn't scared of the solution being harder to obtain. She wasn't looking for an easy payday. She cared and knew exactly what steps we could take and when. She was also very interesting to talk to when we were waiting at court and helped my nerves when we were in the court room.

Brilliant, Always Accessible, Patient, Effective
Hiring Joanne was the best decision I have ever made as it resulted in my ability to maintain a day to day relationship with my children. She successfully filed to dismiss an Ohio divorce case and ex-parte order that gave my soon to be ex-wife primary custody of our children and sought to keep them in Ohio. She knew the law (Ohio's UCCJEA and local procedural laws) backwards and forwards and worked with me patiently to achieve desired outcome. She was always accessible and willing to answer any and all questions I had. An very detailed oriented advocate, her motion was extremely well written and thoroughly researched, and compelling. End result was reestablishment of home-state jurisdiction and order from home-state judge to return children within week. Joanne was extremely fair - all client charges well documented and justified. Her assistant Kelly was also very responsive and helpful. I strongly recommend Joanne without hesitation to anyone in need of legal services commensurate with her areas of expertise and skillsets.

Joanne Beasy Rocks
This was a difficult divorce and I went into it with illusions that being honest and doing the right thing is the way to go. Joanne encouraged me to stay on this path however, the other party was not so honest and trustworthy - nor was his attorney. In the end I got exactly what I asked for when I went in to Joanne - for my daughter to stop crying when she went to daddys, for him to be a better daddy and for me to get residential school parent. Joanne dealt with my faltering self confidence and kept me focused on what was REALLY important and that was my daughter. No matter what obstacles the other attorney and my ex would through into the mix - Joanne kept me calm. However, the depositions happened to be the spot that I was in awe of her. She kept on task and asked the questions and without ever raising her voice or changing her tone she was able to get him to be completely flustered. He answered questions and it was a true test of who he really is. His attorney was laughing and making jokes and relaxed and in my opinion very unprofessional - however, Joanne was the perfect professional attorney being cordial but vicious all while smiling. I am sure that many attorneys could have done what Joanne did for me - but the fact that she truly cared about what happened made the experience a tolerable one. I highly recommend her for any court hearing that you may need to attend. Wait til she get's to cross examine the other party - that is when her true colors shine!

Dedicated to her clients
Last year I made one of the biggest decisions of my life, to divorce my husband. I have never required the services of a lawyer or legal representation, but Joanne proved to be indispensable during my case. My divorce was unique and complicated; my husband lived on the other side of the country and we share a son who is autistic and a toddler. I was unsure of my rights and what course was in the best interest of myself and my young son. Joanne clarified everything; she was honest and straightforward, and gave me confidence in the strength of my case. She never pressured me, but was clearly on my side and open to my ideas and opinions. Joanne never took any legal action without running it by me for approval, and I was always promptly notified and given documentation via emails. If I ever had a question or concern, I could always email Joanne and her secretary and both would promptly answer my question...they are an amazing team. In addition, Joanne possesses an exceptionally empathetic and understanding personality, which made this overwhelming time in my life much easier to navigate. Joanne represented me as if she were representing herself or a loved one; she made my interests and that of my son her own and she worked relentlessly for us. Due to Joanne's efforts and hard work, I now have custody of my son and peace of mind.

An Absolutely Outstanding Professional
Joanne is knowledgeable, responsive, polite, and efficient in her communications. She listens to questions and gives appropriate answers in a courteous but direct way. In other words, she exhibits all of the important attributes a person would seek in an attorney but rarely finds. If you need the services of an attorney, you will not do better than Joanne.

Outstanding; pleased to have been her client
As a long-time practicing lawyer in California, I needed a lawyer in Ohio to handle a personal matter. Ms. Peters' work was extremely professional and as perfect as she could be. There is nothing worse than having a lawyer as a client and Ms.Peters' dealt with me without being delayed on her quest. I would recommend her to anyone--C. Logan McKechnie, Merced, Ca.

Joanne Peters
Hiring Joanne to represent me during my divorce was the best thing I could have done. This was my first experience hiring an attorney. Before I found Joanne, I had spoken to and met with several attorneys where I got off the phone or left their office with a bad feeling. The first time I spoke to Joanne, I knew she was different. I cannot believe how fortunate I was in getting it right the first time by hiring Joanne. Joanne has extensive legal experience and knowledge. I appreciated Joanne exerting arguments in my best interest where they needed to be exerted. More importantly, Joanne had the integrity to advise me as to what arguments were not capable of being won where I would have been wasting my time and money. Joanne got me through my divorce with a bare minimal amount of time, effort and stress. In my opinion, Joanne's honesty and integrity as an attorney is virtually unheard of in the legal profession. I would never hesitate to refer Joanne to others.

Honest, Fair & Knowledgeable
We have worked with Joanne for almost 5 years as we have grown our business to more than double in size. She has been instrumental in every step of the way. Creating & negotiating contracts, settling disputes in a timely manner and advising us on even the smallest detail. Her contacts in the legal field are wide ranging & she is quick to reach out for support in any field if needed. We have been faced with some challenging disputes and with her assistance we have won every single one. Her time is valuable, but her billing is unquestionably fair. This is an important apsect of the relationship when you are a business owner. And, she is "tough as nails"...

Joanne is what you expect, but rarely find in an attorney -
I worked with a start-up company that grew from under $1,000,000 in sales to about $60,000,000 in sales in five years. The owner grew very litigious with his extensive non-compete agreement and everyone - dealers - that had a problem with him felt his wrath. The company grew and was held together with fear. Many people were very afraid and suffered because of their agreement they had signed was one- sided. In the beginning this was not a problem and it was unforeseeable that the agreement was going to be used in the most aggressive and destructive way possible, even beyond any legal remedy - just to cause the loss of time and money. Most dealers did have problems. Over 60 out of 400 'former dealers' felt the wrath of this company using their agreement as a sword and tormenting them until they were tired, out of money, and beat down. Over 60 were or are involved in litigation, some for over 5 years. Many of my friends, before I fell into a major legal dispute, retained an attorney only to have the attorney overwhelmed, out organized, and in a situation were they withdrew from the case because the opposition was too tough. The opposition had been fighting these exact cases for five years. They didn't know what hit them. (the clients and attorneys) The legal firm would ask for a few thousand up front but then want up to $50,000 or more to go to trial. This was to get out of these tough cases. So when I needed consul, I was extremely worried. I knew that my case, and maybe my financial future was dependent on one individual. Most attorneys took months just to catch up on 'non-compete' issues and had no idea what they were up against. When the attorney found out they just gave up because it was a hard case. On the other hand Joanne Peters, without any hesitation, can be recommend to fully take over your case and let you sleep a lot better at night. 1. She studied the situation in every way and was ready immediately. I never saw her caught off guard or unprepared. Not once. 2. She is reasonable and tough. She knows how to get the job done and win the game, but she is also above the game and in control of the process. 3. Easy to get a long with. She gave me notice of every event and I didn't have to keep track of the case allowing me to focus more on my business and not the money and time distraction the opposition wanted. 4. Joanne gets results. My company was struggling financially, my opposition company had a legal budget of $500,000 each year, and we were able to avoid any judgments against me and my company. In my case with Joanne, this was not luck, she earned this through her methodical approach. 5. Joanne gets at least an A rating. Six of the eight attorneys I have had I would rate a C - to an F according to my realistic expectations. One I would rate a B. Joanne never let me down over our year long case. When the case was over, she mailed me 5 full bankers boxes of files, if that gives you an idea of the scope of this contractual dispute. I would not hesitate in having her represent you or your firm. This is one of the few recommendations I have every written and I am completely happy to try and return the support she gave me and my company. Sincerely, One Happy Client Indianapolis, Indiana Feel free to ask Joanne for my number is you would like to speak with me directly.
