An Outstanding Advocate – Professional, Compassionate, and Brilliant

I can’t speak highly enough about the exceptional legal support I received from Mr. Comley during an incredibly challenging time in my military career. Being the subject of a SHARP investigation was one of the most stressful experiences I’ve ever faced, but from our very first conversation, Mr. Comle...y demonstrated the utmost professionalism, empathy, and deep understanding of the military justice system. Nothing was overlooked—from reviewing the investigation documents to gathering evidence and meticulously preparing responses. It was clear that every move was calculated and backed by thorough legal knowledge and experience. What truly stood out was his timeliness and responsiveness. No question went unanswered, and I never felt left in the dark. Whether it was a late-night concern or a last-minute development, Mr. Comley was there—on time, every time. Beyond the legal skills, he genuinely cared about me as a person. I wasn’t just another case; I felt supported and heard every step of the way. That personal investment gave me confidence and peace of mind, which made a world of difference. Finally, the strategic and intelligent defense Mr. Comley crafted was nothing short of impressive. He identified weaknesses in the case and articulated my defense with clarity and strength. Thanks to his unwavering commitment and expertise, the case was resolved in my favor. If you are ever in need of legal representation, especially in something as serious and complex as a SHARP case, I cannot recommend Mr. Gilbert Comley enough. He is truly the Soldier's advocate.

Brandon - it was a pleasure and an honor to represent you. Unfortunately, your case represented one wherein the subject of the report was, in reality, a victim of the system's misuse. I am grateful to you for your unwavering honesty, your sincere and diligent interest in your case and most importantly, your trust. I hope you never need to call on your advocate again and I wish you the best in your continuing military career - that said, if you ever need assistance, just call.

Unquestionably level of care, professionalism, and competence

Joey was truly an exceptional representative/legal counselor for me and helping me achieve success and getting the case/issues at hand addressed deliberately with a very professional and tactful approach! He listened to my concerns, understand the unique dynamics of the UCMJ system and how it’s not m...eant to provide equal rights for the client as it is for the command team, and created an great way to address the concerns and challenges to ensure success. TDS representatives just told me to write a rebuttal stating how I was sorry and apologize for something I didn’t do. Joey saw the numerous violations that occurred in the so called investigation and looked at how you approach the case from an objective standpoint using actual evidence versus the army’s approach of you are guilty until proven innocent. Joey really couldn’t have done any more perfect then he did, resulting in an amazing outcome for myself. He used the military’s poor investigative process against them and created success with actual investigative work and deliberate points supported by legal evidence. So fortunate to have Joey on my team and represent me in this egregious abuse of the UCMJ system by the US Army JAG legal team. Thanks again Joey Comley!

It was my pleasure to represent you and to ensure that countless Soldiers and other units will continue to benefit from your professional leadership and years of applied knowledge and skill - this old Soldier is proud that the Army goes rolling along with leaders like you still at the helm!

Call Him! He is Phenomenal!

Mr. Comley was amazing! I was SO nervous to have a pending charge that could possibly muddy up my good reputation, interfere with mine or my husband's future career choices (he is active duty in the Army) or prevent me from being on post where I currently work and live. I had pending domestic assa...ult charges in federal court, due to a mental health crisis, and basically a misunderstanding. I chose Mr. Comley over about 20 other referred attorneys because once I spoke to him just one time, he made me feel at ease, and calm. With his knowledge I knew he could help me navigate through federal court. Since I have never had anything like this pending before, and had NO idea what to expect or where to start, Mr. Comley helped me figure out what would likely happen, what records I needed in my file etc, and who to speak to regarding my case. He then examined my file, discussed my matters with the prosecution's supervisory attorney, and road mapped my defense with me. When all was said and done, my case was dismissed! When I heard the word "dismissed" I was so relieved! My husband and I could hardly believe it. I called Joey right away to thank him, and to tell him how much it meant to me to not have to worry about the charge being on my record. I don't have to worry about leaving town to see family out of state, and now I don't have to worry about a domestic charge that I didnt actually deserve (due to the mental health crisis and circumstances). These charges could have interfered with any federal or civilian job choices I make in the future. I appreciate him so much. I knew from the moment I spoke to him, I was making the right choice of who I needed on my side to represent me. Thank you so much Joey!

“He saved my F@&$ing life!”

So I am Joey’s brother and a lawyer, but this is a true story that demonstrates what a great lawyer he is and how small our world is. About 8 years ago, I was representing a national welding manufacturer after a fire at an auto seat manufacturing plant in a Cleveland, Miss. Any potential machine make...r that could have been the source of the fire was invited to attend a meeting at the factory and inspect the scene before repairs. The fire occurred on a Saturday when the factory was not operating and fortunately the assistant manager, Todd Woodruff, happened to be at the office, checked the factory floor, saw the fire, and called the fire department. Thus, Todd was at the meeting with 25 other people, like me and my client. Todd was introduced first and I happened to be sitting next to him. I was last to introduce myself as we went around the room. After I introduced my client and myself, Todd Woodruff turned to me and asked, “How do you spell your last name?” I said Comley. He asked if I had a brother. I said yes. He asked, “Major Joey Comley?” Yes, I said. He exclaimed, “He saved my F$&@ing life! Your brother saved my f$&@img life!” Of course, all 25 people in the room are looking and listening now. Because Joey was a Cavalry Officer in combat in Iraq, I assumed Todd was talking about Joey saving his life in Iraq. So I asked, “Were you in Iraq with him?” He yelled, “No, he was my trial defense counsel in my court martial! He saved my F$&@ing life! I was accused of conduct unbecoming an officer for saying all kinds of crazy stuff, but I had an undiagnosed brain tumor. Joey got me a medical exam and my court martial dismissed. He saved my f$&@img life!” Joey was stationed at Fort Irwin, Calif. at that time and I can’t recall where Todd’s case was but it was on the west coast somewhere. Needless to say, at this point, the factory’s lawyers, who would like to blame my client for the fire, were about to vomit because their key witness is loving me because of what Joey did for him. The factory lawyers quickly broke up the meeting for us to tour the fire scene on the factory floor. Those lawyers were mortified as Todd called Joey on his cell and told him he was with me in Cleveland, Miss. and he was buying my lunch, drinks or dinner or anything! Todd followed me throughout the factory raving about Joey. In that moment, I don’t think my client could have been more proud to have me as their lawyer simply because of Todd’s reaction to Joey’s representation of him. Todd Woodruff has passed away, but I think he would want other service members and potential clients to know what Joey did for him.

Todd was then and remains my most difficult and interesting Client - I am most proud of the fact that when you met him, he was living his best life. Now that he is now gone, I am also grateful for the administrative victories we had; his family's receipt of his dependent and indemnity compensation (VA disability benefits) and his survivor benefit plan (retirement benefits), which both serve as enduring reminders of America's appreciation for his Service.

Rape trial.

Joey Comley did great on my case and was honest throughout the whole process. He represented me back in 2013 for a military rape trial in Alaska. Joey would fly back and forth to and from Alaska. He came to make sure that I was mentally ok. I was innocent and wrongfully accused of rape by force but o...f coarse we had to prove it in court. In the beginning I was in a very depressive state of mind with it being my first time in a situation like that. We waited about 7 months for trail but throughout that time Joey kept an open line of communication with me and made me feel great about the case. One of the things I respected the most about him was he never gave up and he was adamant about not taking a plea deal and going the extra mile for me. Whenever I would reach out to him with information he always took notes and gave me his undivided attention. He took my case very serious and went above and beyond for me. At the end up the trial I was fully acquitted of all charges thanks to him. He played a big part in my life and keeping me out of prison and with my family where I belonged and for that I couldn’t thank him enough. He also check on me afterwards to see how my life was going. I now own a trucking company and have a beautiful baby girl that I’m raising. Joey genuinely cares about his clients and I would recommend him to represent anybody.

I'll never forget your Mother's reaction when the verdict was read, and I knew you were completely innocent from the start (I am so grateful you never lost hope) - you are evidence of a life well lived. Keep it up and be sure to squeeze on your Mother and Daughter!
